Would you still pick any past or present fighter to beat him?

Even then, he would still have a very small number of elite wins.

You would still have reservations about picking him over Lennox Lewis for example.

    Seconded.

Fury is great to watch. His best wins are over a hard hitting crude slugger in Wilder, an old Wladamir and a limited guy in Chisora.

A win over Joshua would be great but like you said, it still adds up to a small number of elite wins.

Fury wasted 2-3 years of his career. He needs to beat Joshua and then follow up with 5-7 QUALITY wins. And by quality, i mean guys like Usyk, Hrgovic, etc. If he can get another 6-8 quality wins including Joshua, then he moves up considerably.

Who would even have three wins that good against different heavyweight opponents? Maybe Lewis. Maybe Ali.

    absolutely I would.
even with a win over timid AJ and limited Wilder i would still pick the following to beat him, probably even clobber him with a brutal KO:

    Lennox Lewis
    Riddick Bowe
    George Foreman

possibly Vitali too, at least young Vitali. he wasnt as timid as his brother

    also possibly Holyfield.

I will play devils advocate here.

I could be argued in hindsight, that Wlad was oven ready to be taken, and that Wilder was never that good in the first place.

Very few heavyweights in the history of the sport, have a better single win than James Douglas.

As for the hypothetical Joshua win, he is going to have to prove it to Joshua.

Fury has always been a difficult fighter to rank, because he has has a couple of great fights, but very few elite opponents.

This is very much a wait and see career.

No man born from their mother can beat Fury. Once Fury batters Joshua he willl have

    Wlad
    Wilder x2
Joshua (dont think AJ will take the rematch)

Then he will clean up all the B fighters the Chisoras, Povetkins, Whytes, Parkers.

Historically speaking a win over Joshua in 2020 doesn't mean a whole lot. He's shown he's vunerable already

No, close to prime AJ is almost on the same level as ancient Wlad.

    Of couse.

Why would I pick him over Lewis, Ali, or a prime Wlad just because he's beaten Wilder and AJ?

Do I need to point out how degraded those two are by modern fight fans?

Gonna take more than three notable wins to become the h2h goat.

There aren't many people I'd pick to beat Fury. No one present day.

    I have

    Mike Tyson
    Lennox Lewis
    Riddick Bowe
    Vitali Klitschko
    George Foreman
    Muhammad Ali

As viable candidates to beat Fury or give him a very difficult fight.

Furys size and style make him a head to head nightmare.

Not hypothetically, Wlad was still very good even if he was past prime, and Wilder is one of the hardest right hand punchers in heavyweight history.
