Could Joe Smith Jr give Canelo any problems?

Obviously, Canelo is much more skilled and has a big speed advantage. However, do you think Smith Jr would have a chance here with his size and power advantage?

Given how a boxer/mover like Bivol was able to completely dominate him and barely lose a round.

Canelo has the tools to do the exact same job, and finesse him with his defence on the front foot making him miss.

Smith does have fantastic power, but at the highest level he is lacking in terms of his boxing skill.

If Canelo did get clipped it could get interesting though...As Smith Jr is a concusive puncher. Probably heavier than anything he has been in with other than the alcoholic shell of the Krusher. Bivol was caught with a punch on the break after bell and admitted it took him 2 rounds to get a clear head in his fight with Smith Jr.

My bet would be a convincing 12 round UD. But there would be the excitement there of Smith Jr landing something at some point and changing the fight.

Canelo would counter him to death in the early rounds and make smith jr wary, at that point i expect canelo to go on the offense with combinations which will cause smith jr to try to land something big while on the backfoot. Since this is the opposite of his style, i expect smith jr to be dead tired by the mid rounds and to get overwhelmed by canelo leading to a tko defeat in the late rounds.

If he comes to fight unlike Smith and Kovalev possible.. Canelo's a flat footed plodder with overrated defense

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything you’re saying here. I remember Bivol getting caught with that punch right at the end of the round (I didn’t think it was after the bell but maybe I’m wrong)...if that had happened in the middle of the round, he could have been in trouble.

Power means nothing if you cannot find a target to land on.

Callum Smith had plenty of power too but Canelo completely neutralised him.

The only person who can beat Canelo is Beterbiev and that's through just man-handling him and hitting him on the inside where Beterbiev's superior strength could undo Canelo. I mean he THREW Gvozdyk to the canvas 3 times.

No one can outbox Canelo right now.

Billy Joe Saunders can outbox Canelo. If he is on tip top form I would actually go with BJS (whether he would get the fair nod obviously is a different matter)

I think BJS is clearly the better boxer. Canelo is a tank though and BJS can't stop him, so he will have to be on his game for 12 full rounds.

Clearly a better boxer based on what exactly? Beating up domestic level opponents?

As much as I really like Joe, I give him a minimal chance of winning that fight.

Saunders blows hot and cold and is unreliable.

His childish mentality means he could also implode at any moment.

A shame really....all that ability but he never applies himself properly.

I think he'd punch holes in Clenelo. Smith has improved a lot, hits like a truck, throws a lot of punches all of which very heavy indeed, has a very solid beard, a great engine and is unorthodox and throws from awkward angles which would unsettle Clenelo especially given the weight behind Smith's shots.

And Smith is also a very big and physically strong LHW and Clenelo would actually be giving away the weight to Smith that the casuals and his doe-eyed groupies think he was giving away to Kovalev and Smith in this one.

And Smith has a huge heart and if you doubt it just take this into consideration. Even though he'd suffered a broken jaw earlier on in his career and knew damn well the hell that was in store for him after it broke again in round one or two against Barrera - and that hell entails having your jaw wired shut for at least six weeks IIRC which is meant to be extremely difficult both mentally and physically by all accounts and he also lost like 40lbs in weight the first time due to this - he didn't quit and managed to make it to the final bell even though he was in excruciating pain.

Smith isn't a shot drunk with a cracked chin and a six round tank who was nearly KO'd nine weeks earlier by a rank novice who'd never fought anyone remotely close before and whose power had greatly diminished or someone whose only form at the world level is beating a way past his best one armed Groves coming off shoulder surgery seven months earlier and was coming off a Clenelo type robbery win against John Ryder. I guess John Ryder must've been the ''best SMW in the world'' seeing as virtually everyone had him clearly beating Callumo lol

Smith would be the hardest puncher he's faced ,,,by far, plus Joe has a good chin. I don't see Canelo ever seeking out this fight.
