I guess you can make a case for a lot of guys .. And I am not a huge fan, But I always wondered about Mike Tyson .. If he kept that early focus, man I just do not know ... But not many lost it as fast as him ....
I like this thread. And it's good to see Tapia you mentioned. The heart he had .. .. I mean what he accomplished even with the drug addiction/jail time ... If only he was a straight shooter from the get go
Tyrone Everett Patrick Ford Michael Dokes ( could have been a much more dominant force if he wasnt a drug addict)
Don Curry falls into this bracket for me. I haven’t done any research, I just remember him being alongside Hagler, Hearns, Leonard & Duran as a superstar. After his crushing, shock defeat to Honeyghan, things seemed to go down hill pretty quickly.
Riddick Bowe and Sergey Kovalev are always the first two that come to mind for me. Kinda surprised I'm the first one in this thread to mention them! (maybe I'm going for the easy picks).
I don't see how Cooney could have gone much further. He hand picked his way to the Holmes fight. Even the WBA champs would have been tough because they had to fight and beat live opponents to get their titles. He possibly could have won the WBA title but I doubt he'd hold it long.
