If the war didnt freeze everything and Louis didnt get the immediate rematch I imagine Conn could have made a few defenses. It was the delay of the war that ruined Conn Zale and many other fighters for that matter.

Until Louis got a rematch, which would likely have been very soon. Conn would have known that a Louis rematch, was by far the biggest money fight out there. He would also have known, that he was not good enough to be certain of beating the other top contenders, such as Lou Nova. He might perhaps have gone for an easy pay day, against a no hoper, but it is more than likely that he just goes straight for a Louis rematch.
