Any thread about Tim Witherspoon is always going to have the same questions attached to me.

    1) Did he train at the chicken and waffles joint?
    2) How much blow went up his nose the eight weeks prior to the fight?
    3) Is he going to throw any punches?

Witherspoon had the talent to beat anyone. But yes, Schmeling would beat the dinosaur who fought post Larry Holmes, throwing a handful of punches a round.

While Max Schmeling bares far more historical importance than does Tim Witherspoon, I would favor the latter to beat the former. Terrible Tim had a solid chin and a heavy punch while Schmeling’s durability was questionable. Witherspoon’s 81 inch reach and awkward style would also create issues for the Black Uhlan of the Rhine.

    At his best, Witherspoon dominates.

It's always tough to say because Max didn't face many big HWs, but I think with his style he'd fare well against bigger guys.

That said, Tim was excellent fighter at his best and I wouldn't bet money on either fighter.

    Witherspoon

Better jab, more raw power, longer reach.

Max is great but he was a counter puncher. If Max was a slick boxer like a Billy Conn, or an extremely heavy handed fighter like Marciano, he would have a better chance.

The only thing to ponder is: Will Witherspoon fight at a high work rate? His work rate could be a problem on some occasions. If he shows up in shape and throws a decent amount of punches, he should win a decision.

I think that Schmeling's best work was a bit better than Witherspoon's, and that he was more consistent.

Having said that, Witherspoon is the class of fighter, that could not be taken for granted against somebody like Schmeling.

Max was very tough, dedicated and always in shape. Tim was tough, very seldom in shape and after losing narrowly to Holmes, he lacked dedication and focus. He was lazy and only threw few punches a round.
Max would enjoy an easy night, avoiding Tims jab and ducking under Tims right hand he would be easy moving around Tim and catch him again and again with right hand counters. Max on points.

This a full 30lb difference of functional weight. We saw what happened to Max against Baer, now put him against a fellow who could punch and box :ohno

Yes, I think an advantage of 20lb (Louis 198, Witherspoon 218) and a very phisical fight (like he fought Tillis for example) won´t suit Schmeling. Witherspoon knew how to go for a kill.
