A lot of people think Ben Askren is a bad fighter because of his bad 5 second loss. Fair enough, he didn't do too well in the UFC, but he did win championships in Belltator and One FC, and is an Olympic caliber wrestler and NCAA division champion. Jake Paul is much bigger and taller, but he hasn't fought anyone of note. Only reason he is getting so much attention is because of his massive social media presence. I think Ben takes him down and submits him fairly easily. In a pure boxing match? I don't know, Ben's stand up is pretty terrible, Jake beat two YouTubers. Thats about it
I generally agree. In a contest where grappling is allowed, Ben ties Paul in a knot and does whatever he wants with him. He is a world-class grappler. His grappling ability has never been seriously questioned. His striking ability is basically non-existent though. In a pure boxing match up, Askren has no real advantage. Askren's complete reliance on wrestling is what ultimately let to his demise in the UFC. Askren became predictable and Masvidal capitalized on Askren's predictable response to an attack.
