Foreman was exausted v Ali who knocked a lot of fightes out and Lyle was a devastating puncher, Foreman went on to take far hardder shots than the punch Young droppe him with when he came back in the 90`s fighting wars with bangers like Stewart and Briggs who had Lewis in trouble, Lewis may have had a weaker chin than Foreman.
Jones was hit enough before he got to light heavy that we'd have known he was chinny. He took a good left hook from Toney and didn"t even blink. You can have all the speed and reflexes in the the world, but somebody is going to time you sooner or later. So if you are chinny, and you fight with with your hands down, not to mention clowning and etc, you can expect to get dropped fairly early in your career. Generally chinny fighters do not go up 4-5 weight classes to fight guys with extra weight on their punches. Roy had an average chin. And your last point: Is Chris Byrd chinny ? He took shots fom David Tua and Vitali without any problem, he cuts down in weight and gets stopped by a non puncher at 175.
Toney didn`t score that many one punch finishes, no way could Roy have taken Hearns punches at middle or Julian Jackson`s etc. He couldn`t have taken Benn`s power at 160 either but could have taken Benn`s power at 168 because his KO`s seemed to dry up when he move up.
Del Valle had him hurt bad. If you look at who Jones actually fought vs who was available for him to fight it makes a lot of sense. I remember a Ring Magazine article from the mid to late 90’s where a few of his sparring partners from the past were interviewed and they said Jones father would not allow them to punch him in the head. I thought that was quite odd but it all makes sense now.
He wasn’t “the best” but another guy who either KOed you or got KOed was Roger Mayweather. Roger could fight and was an exciting fighter.
Because he was mostly knocked out by big punchers, 3 weight divisions up, after taking flush shots when past his best and vulnerable. And his last 2 knockouts were by big hitting CW’s, when he was way past his best and extremely vulnerable. That isn’t evidence of possessing a glass jaw. How many former MW’s, SMW’s and LHW’s could have taken that peach off of Tarver, and then those huge shots flush off of Lebedev and Enzo Mac when they were Roy’s age at the time? There’s probably only a handful of guys that could have survived those shots. Roy took a few good shots in his prime. Toney and Ruiz caught him with 2 good shots. Del Valle hit him with a good shot, and his back foot slipped on the wet canvas that made him fall face first. He never had a glass jaw.
He took good shots in his prime. Tarver hit him with a bomb. A perfectly executed left hand. That shot would probably have knocked out most of the other LHW’s in the world. After that, there was a weakness. When Lebedev and Enzo knocked him out, they were big punchers up at CW, and Roy was in his 40’s. Again, only a handful of 40 odd year old former MW’s and SMW’s would probably have survived those shots.
