Who was a boxer that depending on the night was one of the greats or just looked terrible? The king of "You never know how he's going to show up" if you will.
His talent bailed him out of what could have been terrible performances, but you could add my man James Toney in here
He's very hard to judge, very hard. Some fights he looks decent some fights he looks ok and some he looks pretty good lol
After the Canelo fight I just assumed he doesn't care anymore about boxing lol, proved me right against Jacobs
Yes and no. I think it is fair to say that he has been rather consistent when it comes to being inconsistent, if that makes sense. He looked consistent in his WBC title run, even against Martinez. That night had more to do with Martinez than Jr. You can say that he didn´t do enough, but lets be fair, it was Martinez who shut him down. Looked like **** vs Vera but put in a decent performance in the rematch. Then he looked like **** in his next 4 fights, culminating with Alvarez just toying with him. What followed was a KO in 1 W and a surprisingly good performance against Jacobs. Chavez showed determination... until things got though. Of course he badly missed weight as well. But his next 2 fights at LHW... he has looked terrible.
Dude went into that fight with a chip on his shoulder, came out guns blazing, ate a few punches and then said: "Nah, **** this ****." I get why he wants to go on, but he needs to admit that it´s just not in him. He probably knows it, but he just can´t accept it. Dude has had a good life, so it´s no wonder he can´t replicate anything close to what his father did. No shame in that. What is unfortunate is that Chavez Sr. let his sons turn pro. Should have stuck them to the amateurs.
Probably a controversial one but id go with Roberto Duran, well at least out of Boxers operating at World level
