    :ggg

    12 rounds scheduled; 178lb catch-weight.

Kovalev is rated WBO #5 and WBC #6 at light heavyweight, the division he ruled for most of the middle of the last decade with his skillful jab and p4p rated power. Meliqoziyev, an Uzbek amateur star turned unbeaten prospect, is rated WBA #14 at super middle despite having only twice fought there in his nascent career, and having started this year at cruiser.

I'm confused as to why the catch-weight or who that's even for.

You'd think if one absolutely were necessary here, logic would dictate it be somewhere between 168 and 175 (the weights at which they respectively are rated and last fought). Kovalev is the 'bigger' guy (along with taller, longer, and further up in age with all the increased difficulties making cuts and other trappings going along with that) but Meliqoziyev is the one that, as mentioned, fought at 181½lbs. Kov, meanwhile, hasn't tipped over the LHW maximum for 9½ years.

I would not let my prospect to fight kovalev. Yes, he's old and washed up. Still he has a freaking ton of experience. Specially experience in smashing other people's skulls, even if they are talented.

I'm not a kovalev fan. But this guy is dangerous even when full of vodka.

I dont know Meliqoziyev (6-0), tbh, but I hope he knows what he's doing. I'll try to watch some of his fights (or all of them, lol, since they are only six) if I have time.

Too much too soon for the Bully. Kovalev's performance, even though he wasn't sitting down on his shots, was defensively and jab wise, a masterclass against Canelo, who he was close to shutting out at the time of Canelo's "come from behind" KO. This fully recovered from both Yarde and Canelo matches Kovalev, should still have enough to outbox Melikuziev with relative ease. But with Kovalev.... you never know. That being said, I have my fingers crossed. I think he still has enough to pull it off.

A lot of people are very high on him. All the same, this is a tremendous leap up and while I'll still be rooting for Sergey, this kid has my respect for brandishing his big fat hairy Uzbek mänti like this.

    I picked Bek by KO.

I like Kovalev but I just don't have much faith in him these days. I think his reaction time and punch resistance are long gone.

    When is he fighting?

Will he even have time to sober up after new year's celebrations?

Tough match to predict the outcome.
Before the Canelo KO.. it would have been easy to pick Kovalev.. but now just don’t know.

Too much optimism here for Kovalev. It might end up being a bridge too far for this guy but Kovalev is also a shell of himself. For ****s sake he was almost KO'd by Yarde who is total garbage and lost to Clenelo(there's a reason why he was a big dog in that fight) Kovalev should just retire and stop emberassing himself and his fans.

Before Yarde. But Kovalev was obviously shot to **** in those E. Alvarez fights as well. That guy wouldn't have lasted 5 rounds with a prime Krusher. Let's just say for sake of argument though that he regained some form in the 2nd Alvarez fight... Laboring with and nearly being stopped by Yarde was a huge warning sign. a lot of people on here want to pretend Clenelos win over him was great - but they just can't read between the lines(or choose not to rather) Kovalev is totally done.
