Occasionally I let my dislike for Canelo get in the way of an objective view,,, but I kinda lean towards Alvarez by close decision . However a Bennie win would not be shocking at all

Sweet post Mike. You are bang on mate. I'm willing to consider Benny is better or worse than i place him and good posters sit either side of my opinion.

It probably looks like the first GGG fight, but Bennie isn't as good as Golovkin.

It's not hard to imagine Briscoe wearing Canelo down. I can't think of a time Alvarez has ever faced the kind of pressure that Bennie would bring - not even in his fights with Golovkin.

So Cotto wasn't past his prime at all and middleweight was his best weight?
And their wasn't any dispute over who won tne GGG foght?
And tbe Lara win wasn't a split decsion?
And Kov isn't a shot boxer?
And Ryder wasn't robbed vs Callum?

Canelo wins a decision as hes a better boxer, but Bennie most certainly has some serious moments as he was as tough as they come. I see posters on these boards giving out about Bennie's high number of losses. That is palpatable, but a closer look needs to be taken. Bennie had something like 95 fights in something like 18 years. Thats on average approximately 5 1/2 fights a year for 18 years. Thats ridiculous. Added to the fact he fought EVERYBODY and I do mean EVERYBODY over that time is also a massive factor meaning of course hes going to lose alot of fights because he was always in the ring for 18 years. Anyone that doubts how good and tough he was simply needs to watch his fights.

Golovkin - Lost the first fight easily and deserved no more than a draw second fight
    Jacobs - Good win granted
    Kovelav - Shot to pieces
    Cotto - Close to shot
Smith - Was beaten clearly by domestic/euro level Ryder in his last fight
    Lara - A daylight robbery

Both Rodriguez and Griffiths were very different in style to Canelo, though.

Moreover, I'd wager on both of those boxers, as well as Briscoe, having the superior workrate and engine to Canelo.

I'd suggest that a peak Briscoe would have given Golovkin as good a fight as Canelo did and I'd even fancy Bennie's chances.

This thread cracks me up. I wanted to ask the question of who Briscoe actually defeated that was anywhere near the class of Canelo and I see somebody already threw out Tony Mundine. LOL. Mundine was athletically gifted but he was no fighter. He had zero heart and zero chin and proved it over and over again. He was the very definition of a front runner. Boxrec warriors here keep talking about all of these guys but how much have you seen of them? Did you see Mundine get knocked out in one round against a shot Rodriguez? Did you see him beat a geriatric Griffith by running the entire fight? Did you see Mundine knocked out in one round by James Marshall a year after Briscoe beat him? Marshall ended his career with a record of 11-6-1. Mundine wasnt anywhere near as good or as accomplished as Canelo and he lost every time he stepped up in class, usually badly. I see people mentioning Briscoe-Rodriguez. How many of you have seen Briscoe get absolutely whitewashed by Rodriguez who used nothing more than a jab to do it? Briscoe's feet might as well have been in quick sand. For years people have brought up Briscoe's draw with a green Monzon three years before Monzon won the title but always conveniently ignore that in Argentina a fighter had to have a significant margin of victory or a draw was ruled. Their rematch was one sided. At every stage of his career Briscoe was losing to men Canelo would have beaten. So if hes losing to men who werent as good as Canelo regularly throughout his career it stands to reason that he was going to lose to a better class of opponent: Canelo.

Thats the whole point isn't it genius?
The GGG bouts especially the first one is controversial no or yes?
Lara bout could have gone either way meaning that people thought Lara WON.
Cotto beat a Martinez that couldn't move at all and then shortly after Canelo he got battered by.......Ali.
Amd Cotto was a JR.WELTER was he not?
Kov struggled with YARDE who is a CLUBFIGHTER who buolt his record up. And Yarde has done what since then?
Canelo had FORTY TWO fights when HE challenged Mayweather and while he might not have been in his prime he still should hsve won more then ONE round in an entire 12 round bout against a smaller aging champion. Conor McGregor won more then ONE round!!!!
Love hove you dismiss Callum getting beat by Ryder.

    Carlos Monzon
    Geroge Benton
    Eddie Mustafa Muhammed
    Cyclone Hart
    Tony Mundine

    You want more?

Let me show you how this is suppose to work.
Sugar Ray Leonard. I'm a huge Hearns fan so I hated Leonard with a passion. BUT he was a great fighter.
His five best wins in my opinion:
Wilfredo Benitez- beat an unbeaten multiple weight champion.
Roberto Duran 2- changed his tactics which made Duran QUIT.
Thomas Hearns- rallied and stopped an unbeaten fighter.
Ayube Kalue- moved up in weight and stopped an unbeaten titlest.
Andy Price- stopped a top contender inside of ONE round.
I didn't even include Leonards victory over Hagler.
Yet for all the above performances their isn't ANY controversy surrounding ANY of those wins. Not split decsions. No people thought the other boxer won.
THAT is what a great performance is.
