And let me say before all the Wlad huggers pop an artery, he IS the BEST HW in the world and DOES have good skills. He just wouldn't beat any of the top 5 guys in the 90's, that's all. Not a big deal.

 

Let me remind you all that Thompson is Klitschko's mandatory because he was originally supposed to fight Iggy as the #1 challenger for the WBO & they accepted the unification match that WE ALL said we wanted. That's a credit to the WBO in my opinion. They accepted it with the exception that their mandatory defenses were honored when viable. Povetkin earned his shot too even though I don't think he's ready for what he earned.

 

Nice way to play down the competition so you don't have to give Wlad credit. :yep

 

Name me 5 90's HW's that Wlad isn't a tough fight for. :deal

I wont argue you with you on that, Wlad, as you say, is a standup guy/role model for kids.

I just wish the top Heavyweights would start fighting each other, and also develope more of a personality in some way, most of these guys put me to sleep when there on the mic, either that or I cant understand what the hell there trying to say. The lack of hype for most of the fights dont help either, which doesnt help the Heavyweight fan base in America at all.

 

This is not even close. The division today is on par with the 80's which is why the titles change hands so much. Even guys with proven skills like lyakovich and ibragimov have fought scared shitless in recent title bouts. Every next big thing (ie guinn,chambers,brock) ends up getting embarrassed eventually, and even a 40 something oliver McCall is still knocking contenders out.

2. Holyfield

My opinion

Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe, and Foreman(early 1990's) would all beat Wlad.

 

Nope, but this era is much better than the 80's!

 

Wlad would own (bad) all but Evander and Lewis. He would be a pick em against Evander and a threat against Lennox.

 

we're talking 90s........

Lewis -- Wlad is a big underdog here. Big edge to Lennox.

Holyfield -- Very favorable matchup for Wlad, smaller hw who was a natural counterpucnher. he would have major issues getting inside. However, Evander's will, workrate and chin give him a good chance. 50/50 fight.

Bowe -- Close matchup. Again Bowe isn't an attacking fighter. He likes to play the pocket game. This favors Wlad. Again, Bowe was very skilled as an inside fighter but seemed to have trouble throwing that right cross. His poor defense will make it hard for him. Slight edge to Wlad.

Tyson -- This is Wlad's worst style matchup. However, 90s Tyson is not the same animal that dominated the 80s. If Wlad can survive the first 3 rounds, Tyson will start to give in a little bit. Tyson has a good puncher's chance. Edge to Wlad.

Ibeabuchi -- im sorry, he's too unproven especially against tall boxers with good jabs. i can't even rate him.

So I would put Wlad at #3 or #4 at worst

 

I have said it before, a past-his-prime Tyson would get stopped by Wlad. A "in his prime" Tyson would have ended Wlad's career in one night.

Period, end of story.

I guess the 90's Tyson could be deemed past his prime?
