I've seen Buffer announce the wrong winner in Germany, announced Sturm when Soloman was the winner, mistakes happen but I just don't like dudes who know nothing about boxing being in these positions. Beiro was very good, I remember him on Tuesday night fights.
A poster on the rbr last night said it best. When watching hbo it seemed like a classy event meanwhile dazn seems like a bunch of dudes drinking watching boxing. I'm paraphrasing of course.
I miss HBO boxing. People complain about the favoritism and calling punches that didn't land. But it happens with all networks/platforms. They were the best by far.
Damn, I dont know I really liked the DAZN show man. I found this show was better than Canelos for sure lol, I found even Canelo was happier on this show than his own DAZN show lol. I didnt catch the blunder where the camera stayed on Luke instead of Garcia, but I find weird they introduced Garcia when they were already in the ring and they introduced him as the "reigning" champ. I did find that odd but i mean it didnt kill the show for me or anything. Moras translations were on point throughout the show i found. and his technical commentating was pretty good, I did not find his commentating one sided at all, he did say Garcia was dominating most of the rounds, I actually had Luke winning most of the match, like up to the 4th-5th minimum. I found Moras commentating on Lukes footwork vs. Garcias footwork was pretty spot on. Mannixs score card was definitely one sided for sure lol, i think he had Garcia winning every round. his commentating for the earlier fights was pretty good, he can definitely describe whats going on in the ring. i think he was on fire that night man spot on. his instagram posts during the show were pretty good though, good behind the scenes. Grishamm is funny, i often think hes listening to me, him and mora make a good team. i love hatton man that was great, i dont know who the other guy is but hes not bad. if anything the show needed more ak and barak and kate, their behind the scenes posts on instagram were pretty good. i lijked the zion williamson comparison. since drake got big, i dont think their is a difference between ak and drake they look like brothers. I think the show was the perfect mix for the fight fans and the casual fanboy fans, it had everything. just my 2 cents.
Fair enough. I actually like more and mannix, and Grisham, not so much Brian Kenny. All on their own are ok, I just think as a group they don't come close to HBO even with big George. They chat way too much and miss most of the action.
You're either very optimistic, or Chris Mannix Someone mentioned Jimmy Lennon Jr going to the dressing rooms and getting names and histories right. The Showtime crew also do this, a lot of their commentary is what they learned directly from the fighter about their plans and current situation. Mannix seems to get his information from the Internet. I don't hear him say much I couldn't get elsewhere. At least Merchant would chat with managers at the brothel or whatever.
Agreed. How Mannix has a job in boxing is beyond me. The guy knows absolutely nothing about the sport, adds zero to a broadcast and has no idea what he's watching. I usually mute the DAZN broadcasts and listen to music. And yes, Jimmy Lennon Jr is the best. Love that dude.
I really like the innovation of the grey ring canvas. For me, along with the WBSS, that's the best thing to happen to the sport in the last 50 years if not even longer.
HBO’s production was top notch. We likely won’t ever see that again as Boxing fans. DAZN is a mess they are still having problems that they did when they first launched. How do you not correct this by now?
Re: commentators I watch a lot of formula 1 and there is an outcry at the moment about one of the commentators there. He seems to babble too much, make little mistakes, gets far too excited and in comparison to his colleague appears to know very little. Among the "professional" armchair enthusiast he is causing quite a stir. They fail to realise that commentating is hard. You have to speak constantly about anything. Its a hard job. Hes got to make even the most boring race in the world sound amazing. This commentator is for the casual viewer. The other guy, who is more technical, doesn't get as excited and is more sane about his commentary. He's more for the armchair expert. You can't have one without the other. I have noticed that Dazn have allowed these two to disagree and argue with each other more. An example was - "this guy reminds me of hector commancho" "Well that makes you a total wally cos he fights nothing like commancho" "I meant his hair and tassles" It was a fair commentary thing to say - it would have led on to a brief chat about commancho, but in a positive way. Instead the other guy disagreed with him outright because of his obvious disdain towards him. He was even given a chance to come back on track but was too blinded he couldn't. Awkward moment - unless these two get a bit more in sync, one or both be changed.
In the final years, they were unbearable. But the production quality was top notch, and for the most part it was all damn good content.
