canelo. the strength of their respective resumes is debatable, but canelos dominance across what is now his 3rd division, and how hes making legit guys look like they dont belong in the same ring with him, puts him ahead for me.
ward and canelo came up the ranks very differently, its no surprise the learning curve would be different, with different triumphs and failures at different times. only in the last couple of years has canelo become a complete fighter. you can see it in his ring attitude and complete calmness within his sense of purpose. he has complete trust in his game. as well he should, he is at a level where he is so well versed in his craft that he can compute problems in real time, cause hes got answers for all of them. not like less skilled practitioners that use the same answer over and over till it works...or it doesnt. he doesnt really need anyone to tell him what to do in the ring, he just needs to hear what theyre seeing from the outside.

Only correction is Ward beat Kovalev both times.

Ward wasn't schooled 108-120 by much smaller past prime fighter like Canelo was

Maybe the one in first fight who beat Ward imo. By all accounts in the rematch he was drinking a bottle of Vodka a day in camp.

I'm sorry but Ward employed Victor Conte and he recieved a lot of biased help from officials. He was the only fighter in the S6 who never had to fight overseas.

It's mind boggling how high people rate Ward. His resume is really NOT that robust at all.

The video CLEARLY shows a low blow from Ward prior to the stoppage. Did your pea-brain miss that?

Both are cherry pickers who avoided ultra dangerous fights, but Andre Ward Grandiosity is the result of his invincibility, how can you make Andre Ward humble...when he never lost a fight in all his adult life both as an amateur and pro.

On the other hand Canelo had very-very-do-or-die close fights early in his career, then he got his first official L as a pro vs Floyd, Maidana and Castillo did much better versus Floyd Mayweather, from Floyd Mayweather POV Canelo evolutionary purpose is to boast his legacy & for this reason we can expect Floyd Mayweather and his fans to bond with Canelo fans and vote for Canelo.

In Andre Ward Grandiose mind, he is more invincible than Bronze Medal Floyd Mayweather because Andre Ward got the Gold and everything before that, we can't blame Andre Ward for believing he is the GOAT.

They don't call him Son of God for nothing

To be fair, Dre didn't even deserve to make the final or come home with anything more than a bronze because he stole the silver and possibly the gold from the Uzbek he fought in the semi-final. This is literally one of the most egregious instances of excessive holding I've ever witnessed in all my years as a fan of the sport and completely indefensible. Say what you will about Clenelo, and I'll say a lot, but at least he never had to resort to the excessive use of illegal tactics to win fights, tactics that were so instrumental in Dre's success. He should've been DQ'd here, let alone incurred multiple point deductions.

Ward was never pound for pound number 1. Not saying Canelo is either, but if they fought prime for prime Ward would mug Canelo.

I would probably pick prime Ward over prime Canelo in a head to head match. But still Canelo has to rate higher with his resume and longevity.

Thanks for this. What a great fighter Andre Ward is. Excellent inside and on the outside.
