RJJ had his speed to rely on to run rings around slow Ruiz. Golovkin's style is based on being able to hurt his opponents and I simply can't see him meaningfully being able to hurt Ruiz because he is simply too small. Ruiz is an average heavyweight puncher but that's the thing - he's a HEAVYweight puncher. He's going to be able to move GGG without loading his shots. You have to favour him heavily.

Golovkin might see the end if he fights negatively and moves a lot, basically using the jab and using head and foot movement to evade the worst of it.

Yeah, Ruiz would manhandle Golovkin. Its not even a realistic fight.

How big do you think GGG could theoretically bulk up to as well? 190?

No more than 10lb without being to slow. If he comes in at 170 now I’d say no more than 180, he’s not a big middleweight. Either way Ruiz just mauls him an slowly gets the better of it round after round. He might exhaust GGG for a late stoppage, he could out maul and make it ugly against much bigger men

Ruiz was a elbow/inside master, especially after his KO loss to Tua

John Ruiz was actually a pretty good fighter, you don't become a heavyweight champ multiple times without being at least quite damn skilled. Silly proposal to think GGG could take him out or outbox just because he lost to a natural light heavyweight phenom in Roy. Golovkin is both a middleweight and not fast enough to pull off an ambush style successfully like Roy.

I proposed that it wouldn't be a wash based on Ruiz getting obliterated on the cards by an old RJJ, I pick Ruiz to win, but it'd be hard for him

Yes, John Ruiz in looked very beatable at times, but was he really? He was awful to watch and he got away with a lot of rough tactics but he was willing to fight anyone and he usually got the win. Tua rolled over him in 19 seconds but no one else ever came close to doing that to him. He lost to Sergey Kobosev (LSD10 at CW), Danell Nicholson LSD12 for the IBO HW world title), and he was stopped by David Tua (LKOby1 for the WBC HW International title). He won his next 11 fights including wins over Jimmy Thunder (WSD12 for the NABF title) and Tony Tucker (KO11). He faced Evander Holyfield for the vacant WBA belt but lost a close 12 round decision. He would go 1-1-1 vs. Holyfield and win the WBA belt from him. He also beat Kirk Johnson, WDQ11. He lost the WBA belt to Roy Jones Jr. but regained the vacant title when Jones moved back to LHW with a win over Hasim Rahman, W12. He lost the belt to James Toney but the fight was later changed to a ND when Toney tested positive for a banned substance. Ruiz for the belt back. He lost his next two fights, a MD to N. Valuev and a SD to R. Chagaev. He beat J. McCline by decision. He lost his last fight to D. Haye, LKOby9. It's hard to imagine Golovkin beating him to be honest.
