For me, Benton was the best, with Toney very close behind. Floyd was obviously good but doesn't stay in the pocket as well as Benton and Toney.

Toney because he could do it in the middle of the ring and counter, not just the ropes.

Interestingly enough Bentons opponents in the clip are dealing with the shoulder roll better than most of toney and Mayweather opponents did. Working the jab, sweeping right hand to the body or arm and doubling up on the left hook when the right hand to the head missed.

The shoulder roll looks better with better matchmaking, James Toney especially the wiser-lardy version of him vs slower bigger guys is the most satisfying to watch.

James Toney. An absolute master of the shoulder roll. Able to deploy it effectively anywhere in the ring without ever getting clipped.

Toney used it as an effective technique to tire opponents out and set up traps and counters.
Mayweather used it more as showboating for the judges eyes and to change the rhythm of a round.

Floyd got hit a lot less than Toney and was simply better than Benton.

hm probably Toney because Toney really hurt guys off the shoulder roll and could use it change the momentum of an entire round or fight. floyd used it mostly to score eye catching shots with no risk to himself, though he did use his feet better than the other 2. good stuff all around

Floyd got hit less but Toney moved less and took more risks by trying to counter more.
