He's definitely a pleasure to watch. Roman is one of my personal favorite of mine. Love his movement and use of angles while also unleashing combinations. He had shades of Canto IMO.
Nacho Beristain himself has said that Roman was his best pupil other than JMM and you can see why.

    Gilberto Roman is unbelievable.

His feet were excellent, it gave him brilliant lateral and lineal movement, allowed him to steer his man around and keep himself safe, he was very comfortable in any part of the ring.
He was brilliantly schooled, and watching him bewilder Jiro was a delight. He was superb, blocking, parrying, slipping and countering.
His own workrate shut down other's offence, his punches seemed to come at all angles with varying degrees of power. He could also throw them moving backwards or forwards.
He was a marvel, once I've finished the Fab 4, I'm doing a "the thread" on him.

My new list looks like this

    1. Canto
    2. Lopez
    3. Roman
    4. Chavez
    5. Saldivar
    6. Sanchez
    7. Olivares
    8. Zarate

This list should be an eye-opener for those who think Mexican fighters all belong to the same "school" of roughneck left-hooking monsters. There's more sublime boxers on that list that sluggers.

That's not even taking into account the type of tricky pesky Mexican outfighter that has had success over the years. Guys like Zaragoza and Manuel Medina won multiple titles based on their guile as much as their toughness.

Bump. Figured it only made sense to add JMM, Barrera, and Morales to the discussion.

Miguel Canto for me. I’d also rate Gilberto, JCC and Lopez higher then guys like Sanchez. I’d have to think about the rest.

I think my list would look largely the same. Roman I don’t see how he could ever be ranked below Sanchez?
