Yeah, I don't get this argument either. Briggs was nothing special, you don't need to be some kind of all-time great to beat him. Plenty of smaller fighters would beat Briggs.
If Briggs was a 185 lb Fighter filmed in black and white with the same KO record these same posters describing him as a threat would be saying there is no evidence of his power. He would just be a guy they'd say that can only stop 200 plus pound fighters if they are cans or exhausted. Briggs reputation as a big puncher comes from his biceps and tomato can routes that aren't even all that convincing or impressive.
He’d still beat any 5’9 non punching middleweight you’d care to name. Particularly if no one has seen any of them fight at all.
" john l Sullivan....bob fitzsimmons.... Joe choyinsky...... Jim jeffries.. Terrific punchers all. But I doubt if any could generate within either hand the dynamic power of jack dempsey ". James j corbett who fought Jackson, Sullivan, choyinsky, fitzsimmons, jeffries. July 14, 1919
Funny thing ...the circle j... With these clowns might be occurring now on zoom over briggs last bout
