Joe Frazier getting belted to the floor against the monster that is Foreman??
Or Floyd Patterson rising, time and time again in that 3 rd round against Ingo??

Glad u brought this up. I have always thought these two were at the top of the list when it came 2 the gutsiest losing performances of all time. Both were epic massacres, but I pick Foreman-Frazier 1. The reason I pick it over Patterson-Johansson is that given Frazier's decline at this point, taking on a feared monster like Foreman alone must have taken more guts than choosing 2 take on a one-trick pony like Johansson.

Foreman was relentless v Frazier and far bigger than Ingo, there was no way of Frazier beating Foreman but he just kept coming.

Frazier’s was a bigger beatdown how Joe ended on his feet I’ll never know.
The uppercut for the second knockdown and the punches he took for the final one were simply monstrous.
Having said that Floyd simply never recovered from the first knockdown which was as good a right hand delivery as you’ll see.
What happened next was a disgrace he got up not knowing where he was walking away from Ingo it should have been stopped at that point, Ingo was then permitted by Goldstein to throw a huge left hook from behind onto the side of Floyd’s jaw.
After that Floyd was being decked by much lighter punches simply because he’d never recovered from the first two.
    Incredible heart and bravery though.

I'm glad that annoyed u 2. I also think Floyd wouldn't have recovered, but I would have DQ'd Johansson just 4 hitting Patterson from behind. Like u said, it was disgraceful.

I'm with you on that William! Scary having to climb up and take a battering from Foreman.
Patterson must have thought "How the hell is this guy doing this?! ''

It's funny. George was known 4 being mean, rude, anti-social, intimidating, and nearly every word u can think of that's not nice. I never thought of Johansson that way, but George won his title without any cheating.

That's true with George. Those first shots that knocked Joe down started the domino effect. Poor Joe was doomed from that point on in effect.

Unlike the Patterson-Johansson fight though, where, as already said, Patterson never recovered from knockdowns 1 & 2, and after that Johansson was able 2 floor him easily. Like Floyd, Joe was also on ***** street, but George continued 2 deck him w/ powerful shots until the slaughter was ended.

Nothing to do with Ingo, Ruby Goldstein was the culprit, but then again he had form.

Well, Ruby is at fault as well. The only way I might pardon Johansson is just being in the heat of the moment and not realizing in time that Patterson had his back turned.

    Definitely Joe.

Floyd didn't know where he was, couldn't feel the shots, and felt like he was in a cloud or something. His body was just reacting instinctively.

Joe knew where he was the whole time, felt every shot, and knew he was getting demolished ... but kept getting up and trying anyway. No quit.

If Patterson’s corner cared a jot for him they could’ve thrown in the towel as well. He was obviously absolutely senseless after the initial knockdown and they had just as much (if not more of) a duty of care to Floyd. Disgraceful refereeing and seconding.

Everything was off about that fight. Even Floyd was 2 blame 4 his lack of preparation.
