Completely agree that Smith went into this fight and its circumstances with his eyes wide open and that, in reality, he had way more than three weeks to prepare and the 'short camp' is a poor excuse but I wonder if anyone who thinks Smith was a victim of some blatant A-sidery will accuse Benavidez of 'ducking' Canelo if sometime in the future he turns down the fight for the very same reason. Can't have it both ways...
How long was Canelos? Also Smith has repeatedly said he was in the gym as he knew he was fighting before the end of the year, Canelo or not.
Canelo had a full camp, or close to it. The problem was finding an opponent. Canelo actually had been ready for a fight for a while. It's why he insistead getting a fight before 2020 was over. He also had problems getting a fight in 2019. It's why Kovalev took it on such short notice. At one point, Canelo was on track to having 3 fights in 2020.
The short notice thing is just not an excuse...............it isn't. Take the fight or don't, live with it.
So Saunders, Plant, and now Benevidez are saying that short-notice abbreviated training camps are bad... Yet some morons here, who are not boxers, have never laced up gloves, and don't fight to earn a living, are saying boxers should graciously accept whatever handicapping terms are imposed and be happy?
Why are you so avidly opposed to a fighter receiving a enough time for a full and proper training camp? Like, you sound like you're actively opposed to this.
I agree, only Plant is a PBC fighter they seem to treat their fighters a little more generously. “Kid chocolate” comes to mind.
David ''El Bandera Roja'' Benavidez is serial killer with a moral compass. He's like a less evil courteous version of Roberto Duran and he's spitting fire in this interview. Especially the second half of it. This content is protected
short week camps are becoming a serial excuse for underperforming. they arent magical places in which the fighters reach a higher peak condition, chances are if a guy loses a fight 12-0 he was still getting dominated even with a three month fight camp.
