4 years of savage fights. Title defenses that went into the later rounds. Absolute wars. His odometer was well over 100K.

Qawi still stops Muhammad but it would be more of a fight. The former's style is all wrong for the latter.

He was past peak but still very good

Coming in overweight and having to sweat it off with same day weigh in didn't help.

I'm just not buying that a world class fighter goes from green to shot in 4 years.

I laugh when people say Dwight was better then Saad.
Beat Lopez Twice. Marvin Johnson twice. Richie Kates.
By the time of the fight Vs Qwai Saad was shot.
You can't engage in war after war wothout it taking something from you. It just doesn't happen like that.
Saad went like 14 wins and 11 losses after that fight with Qwai.
Prime for prime Saad finds a way.
Dwight followed Michael Spinks around the ring in a non effort and Saad would have never fought like that- he would have tried to win at all costs.

I wouldn’t say he was shot for Qawi, but he was declining. Your eyes should be able to tell you the difference between ‘78 Saad and ‘81 Saad. Mileage is what matters in boxing. There’s no shelf life.

This is why I love it when an old thread gets resurrected again. I went back and was surprised 2 see that I had replied. But I would have 2 say I no longer agree w/ my original position. Although Saad would put up a tremendous fight, maybe one of the greatest of all time, and go the distance as well, Qawi didn't have the stamina, durability, or cutting issues of Saad's other opponents, namely Johnson, Lopez, and Conteh. Johnson for instance was a great puncher of course, but punched himself out, esp. in the first fight. Qawi had great stamina and I think could keep the same pace without punching himself out. Close, but Qawi's the wrong guy 2 stay in corners w/ imo. Qawi MD 15.
