Why would my picking Giardello to beat Papp be based on nationalism and politics? It’s entirely logical.
Repeating this bull**** doesnt make your argument any more reasonable. Let me start by saying that the two victims you mention: Tiger Jones and Peter Mueller only beat Giardello twice. You conveniently ignore that Jones beat Giardello in 1959 (after having lost to him twice) by a razor thin split decision. It wasnt until three years later that Papp beat Jones in Jones' final fight. Mueller beat Giardello in 1960 despite having been knocked out in 1955 by Giardello. The problem with his victory over Giardello is that it occured in Germany where criminal decisions were the rule not the exception. In Germany Giardello was denied adequate training facilities, refused access to local sparring partners, had his hotel moved on him, and had the heat cut off at the gym where he trained despite it being winter. Anything the Germans could do to disrupt Joey's training they did. Unless of course you were referring to Charley Cotton who defeated Giardello twice in 1956 by razor thin victories that would have each gone to Giardello if one round had changed. Giardello twice avenged those losses. Papp didnt fight Cotton until seven years later in Cotton's last bout when Cotton had won just five of his last 29 fights. So please, lets not go overboard here. As stated above, everyone of Papp's world class opponents was completely shot when he fought them and when he fought anyone that Giardello had encountered it was always as Giardello's sloppy seconds. The Soviet's did Papp a huge favor by retiring him because it allowed him to become a "What if" whereas had he actually fought someone like Dick Tiger, Joey Archer, Emile Griffith, Joey Giardello, or Luis Rodriguez he would have lost. I would even favor names like Benton, Mims, Carter, and Webb over him. Nobody, and I mean nobody who knows anything about boxing would consider Papp beating the versions of Cotton and Jones equal to beating the versions that Giardello beat or as some kind of measuring stick to how he would fair against Giardello. You use nationalism as a reason why anyone would pick Giardello over Papp but it is you who is constantly blinded by your Eastern European jingoism.
Jose Torres didnt turn pro until 1958. Are you saying you doubt the best version of Giardello could have defeated an amateur Jose Torres?!? HA! Are you saying that the best Giardello couldnt have beaten an amateur Webb?? Talk about delusional.
Giardello was better than anyone Papp beat, so it's really hard to pick Papp with no real reason to believe he could beat someone of that caliber.
What an astonishing post. So just because I picked against your hero I need to question my ideology! Also I’m being nationalistic even though I’m English and Giardello was and Italian American! Your posts get more preposterous by the day.
Ghuly's been banned? Oh no! Who is going to make me laugh so hard with their nonsensical posts milk comes out of my nose? I guess I'll have to search out more posts by famed "historian" and "filmmaker" heGrant...
That guy is hands down the biggest jackass on this forum. He only started watching boxing in the 90's and never competed in the sport yet he acts like he is an authority on the subject. He doesn't know ****!
