Ottke/Reid is as bad as it gets, the scorecards alone were bad enough but a legit knockdown was ignored for Reid and he was deducted a point for hitting Ottke, WTF was this. Lewis/Holyfield 1 was also really bad, Holyfield won maybe three rounds at best. I mean sometimes you get a competitive fight that goes to the wrong guy which can be understandable with the subjective nature of scoring but this wasn't even remotely competitive, there's no way you could make a case for Holyfield winning. So bad even the FBI got involved.

First of all, if you watch carefully, most of the real damaging blows were being scored by Chavez. Taylor was just simply out working Chavez. The fight was not really as one-sided as HBO wanted the audience to believe. Second, Richard Steele is not the time keeper. Taylor was deemed UNABLE TO CONTINUE because he took a steady but significant beating. The ref had every right to wave the fight off. Calling Chavez vs Taylor a robbery is pure emotional thinking and has no basis in logic. Not a personal attack but Chavez deserves some credit.
Going into the 12th, two of the three judges had Taylor winning 107-102 & 108-101. So, Taylor was well on his way to victory. Which is why there's a flashing red light in the corner, the same corner taylor was in, that signaled that fewer than ten seconds remained in the fight. UNABLE TO CONTINUE for literally two more seconds? Of course it's emotional! It's incredibly sad to see a man on his way to victory get robbed because of a terrible call by a hypocritical ref. Ref Richard Steele said after the fight that when he sees a hurt fighter he is stopping the fight, regardless of the time left. But two years earlier when Tommy Hearns was getting pounded by Iran Barkley, Steele let Hearns continue after he got up wobbily from a knockdown and his justification was that a great champion like Hearns should be given the chance to pull himself together.

Fair enough, the judges had him ahead. In actuality, the judges favored the work rate and glancing blows of Taylor (understandably) while Chavez was landing cleaner single shots but in arguably lesser amounts. It does not matter how much time is left, if a fighter is no longer in condition to fight, the ref as every right to stop the fight. It is inconvenient but that's the damn truth. I can understand some people being upset at Taylor's loss but the guy took horrific punishment in the latter half of that fight. I get the Hearns vs Barkley comparison but Taylor took a harsher beating than Hearns in their respective fights. Yes, Taylor did outwork and out throw Chavez through the first half of the fight. What you are forgetting is that refs are well within reason to stop a fight if one fighter eats too many clean blows especially round after round. You can say Taylor was ahead on the cards but at the end of the day, Taylor took a career-altering beating because Chavez was the more surgical puncher.
