I would have loved to have seen Haye unconscious on the canvas alas it wasn’t meant to be why was klitschko unable to KO the hayemaker ?
Because he became a cautious fighter after having his suspect jaw exposed a few times prior. He had the power to end nearly all of his fights by ko if he wanted to risk it. He simply boxed smart since Haye made his name as an explosive counter puncher.
Haye was running for his life, looking to land a game changing lucky pot shot. Haye also seemed to perform some oral favors to Wlad during the fight which may have made Wlad more lenient towards him.
For the same reason Canelo wasn't able to KO his last opponent nor Spence Mikey: Haye didn't come to win. He came to not be KTFO.
Lol, but it was an overly cautious fighter vs someone just looking to survive, not really a recipe for a devastating ko
I remember that build up like it was yesterday. Haye was seen as the next big thing in the HW division, he promised for years that he was gonna knock out both Klitschko's, even during his CW reign. He even had a shirt depicting the severed heads of both Klitschko brothers and this supposedly angered Wlad severely. Haye's whole career was fabricated on bringing excitement to the HW division, his bout with either Klitschko was years in the making. The boxing world, especially Europe expected fireworks in the HW unification between 2 HW champions with extreme knockout power, what we got was something completely different. Haye talked a big game but came in the fight with an extremely bad gameplan. He honestly thought that he could catch Wlad with the perfect shot at any point of the fight but Wlad never gave him the opportunity to do so. Wlad stayed at range with the jab and Haye did nothing to close the distance, losing a lope sided decision. At the end, he blamed the loss on his pinky toe, which cause scrutiny in the boxing world, thus bringing an end to the David Haye era which was surprisingly a very enjoyable one. He made it up a couple years later with one of the most underrated HW build up/fight of all time vs Chisora, but injuries and failed bouts with Fury ruined what was left of Haye.
Movement. Sometimes guys go up against big punchers an I think they are sort of set to not be knocked out.
