Heard rumblings that Eubank Jr's signing is a possible move to have shows on DAZN UK without having a full contract with DAZN and Matchroom. There is rumblings that Sauerland may be tying up with Matchroom to co-promote the shows in U.K and Germany on DAZN in the same way the Cherchi's do in Spain and Italy. There are rumours that they may look to launch a U.K show in the Summer with Eubank vs GGG or Andrade in the U.K on DAZN covid permitting. A fight between Eubank and Andrade for instance makes little sense to Sky but to DAZN it would do solid numbers in multiple territories. Sauerland have also got Mikael Lawal, Zach Parker, Abass Baraou. They also co-promote Thanderz and Hrgovic with Matchroom. It is possible that they will arrange a deal with Sky that means some fighters will cross over between platforms. DAZN will only be looking to run two or three marquee events per year but want to add regular content and the super series will also likely move to DAZN UK. The deal would work for Sauerland to effectively run the shows with their fighters and Matchroom to actually have the TV deal and outsource it in a similar way they do with Sky and DAZN Italy and Spain. Gets Matchroom two TV deals and maintains their power on both platforms. Rumours they will also do something similar with David Higgins in Australia and New Zealand with Joseph Parker, David Nyika among others. Hearn will have all of the TV deals but cant operate globally solely on his own without employing thousands of staff members. So will open small offices globally initially until he has enough control to fully expand into the territories. DAZN being successul is paramount to Hearn becoming the biggest promoter in the world as he knows if he has essentially a global TV deal he will be able to run most of the american promoters out of business as he can spread the purses and budgets and can offer fighters big fights in their own countries or take other stars on a world tour. Hence why he has spoke about taking Canelo to fight in Japan and the Middle East.
Makes sense. Hearn has talked about talking over boxing before...this wouldn't do it but would be a step towards creating it
Sly Sports should open up their boxing content to all promoters - send in the cards for approval and select the best card for the particular week.
Don't think so, but in Joshua they found a perfectly packaged marketable product. They'll be sniffing round the Olympic fighters (if it goes ahead) but off the top of my head I can't think of any that have much X-Factor. Ideally they'd be a HW too.
Would never work. Steffy Bull sends in a card with Terri Harper vs Meyer... limited undercard as he has no stable and week before the fight Haper gets injured. Sky have nothing to show and spent however many millions advertising the fight. All promoters would also hold off their fighters as they would want to have the fights on their card and get the Sky money meaning there is a stalemate and no fights get made. Warren and Hennesey are on different platforms so would not let their fighters go. Fighters pay is determined by TV money and all of the matchroom stable would just move to Queensbury. Having one promoter means fights get made as the promoter can say you fight him. The bigger issue is having too many promoters having TV deals and not wanting to work with eachother
Boxing is bigger than one man whether it be a promoter or fighter and given the tripe being delivered on Sly Sports over the past 5 years, it will not be such a big loss for the boxing fan these days.
If DAZN can take the WBSS and really launch that properley I would be delighted. It's been the best thing in boxing for me over the last 4 years.
I'd love to see a few promotion vs. promotion cards. Adds a different angle and a bit more pride is on the line. A bit like the Frank Warren vs. Eddie Hearn card that was proposed a few months ago.
The only angle i need is good fights. The rest is just dress up. Promoter v Promoter will just turn into some WWE type nonsense imo.
Would make sense for DAZN UK/Worldwide to get more live boxing on the platform. Sauerland usually run Saturday night shows on terrestrial German TV (like Mick with Channel 5) and are usually on a level with the regular Sky Sports shows. Getting Eubank onboard is a decent get for DAZN. Sky really need to up their up game with their boxing output as subscribers aren’t getting value as it currently stands- it’s all about PPV.
We don’t even need promotion vs promotion really. More in house stuff would be fine. First example being the 154’s with Matchroom. It’s been entertaining having Fowler, Fitz, Cheeseman, Eggington fight each other now Metcalf is maybe in the mix (not sure if he’s signed with Eddie). Joyce v Dubois - entertaining in house stuff. Gorman v Dubois spiked intrigue too. Arthur v Yarde You’ve got the Kelly V Benn The 154 lot Smith vs Saunders vs Ryder Johnson V Buatsi or Callum Smith vs either Riakporhe v Okolie Joshua v Whyte that’s just off the top of my head within matchroom. There’s probably others and there will certainly be some with Queensbury too.
