Can other fighters follow Ryan Garcia’s example? Why is this not standard procedure?

f—- being polite, stoic, not overlooking your opponent, or trying to avoid boosting another fighters name/ promotion rivalries.

SELL FIGHTS—get the fans hungry for more. Even if you don’t have a Tank Davis in mind, just challenge the other champs or whoever you believe is the best in your division that will give you the best challenge/experience/scalp/legacy.

props to the kid (even if he does get lit up by Tank)

I like it. Even if you have no one in mind to call out just be sincere. Fake feuds are only a step above fake humility.

What's crazy is that it works about 100% of the time to fuel earnings.

It's probably hard to deal with the criticism every time you say something though. I wouldn't be surprised if some of Broner's problems are amplified by dealing with the scorn that was heaped upon him for his antics.

Broner went far beyond just calling out fighters in the post fight interview. His confidence went to the highest levels of arrogance. Throw in the terrible attitude and you get people really disliking you. Also, his accomplishments did not justify his delusion claims of being the best fighter in the world or the heir apparent to Mayweather. The man was a solid B+ fighter, could have done so much more with his career, but his worst enemy was staring him in the face everytime he looked in the mirror.

But the way he clowned Malignaggi was classic! I'll give him that much LOL

That's what I'm saying! My worst enemy is in the mirror too, it's fascinating to watch someone deal with that while in this extreme form of competition.

The last thing I want to hear from a boxer is "I'll fight anyone my promoter tells me too." I ****ing hate that ****.

I completely agree with this sentiment. Can we please see some more heartfelt responses to this question? Deferring to the promoter is so bland and takes the air out of a potential build up.

Say what you want about that Garcia kid, but I liked the post fight interview. Coming in on the throne was cringe, but he showed heart in the ring and charisma afterwards. Good on him.

The simple answer is most these guys don’t wanna fight for real and are cool collecting a check vs scrubs and letting the fans fight for them.. that urge for greatness lacks severely in these generation

I would rather hear their opinion on whom they want to fight rather than some standard company line, but ultimately it doesn’t matter. Fights get made with contracts and lawyers.

Tbh, in post fight interview I like to hear them talking about the fight that has just ended. I prefer that. I dont like when they call this one or that one, because it's all BS, I dont believe a freaking word of what they say. I want them to talk about the fight, period, and to be honest and explicit when they do it.

To be fair, cotto kept using the I'll fight anyone my promoter puts in front of me line, but he ended up fighting the best available.

Then guys like Juan Diaz kept calling Pacquiao out but to much of my chagrin, they never mixed it up.

There is a popular concencus that a fighter should never call out a fighter before facing what's in front of him, like a boxer can't dream eh? But I understand one step at a time cause being not focused on the task at hand can be disastrous if overlooked!

Even Tyson waited till after fights before he called out Lennox. The baddest man on the planet wanted double Ls children to eat lol.

Words are meaningless most times in boxing.

Because it doesn’t matter what someone says in an interview. It’s just talk. It might help add some hype to a match and give you some entertaining moments but that’s about it.
