In that Hearns fight the punch he caught and hurt Hagler with was on the side of the head which would have kept hurting Hagler had Hearns not broken his hand.. but with the southpaw stance the muscles in the back of Marvin's head is what cushions the blow from that stance. Had he stayed orthodox Tommy would have kept hurting him, and if Tommy would have calmed down and set up some nice punches. I don't know if he could have knocked out Hagler, but he would have probably hurt him..Either way Marvin forced Tommy to throw the punches and he broke his hand. At that point what could Tommy do? His best weapon was nullified.
Can someone please show me exactly where on tape Hearns landed this huge right that stunned Hagler ? Ive watched it endlessly and can't see crap .. I see maybe Hearns land but Marvin take it and keep coming .. where in round one was this legendary shot ?
Hagler was a natural MW and took tremendous blows against smaller men, but he did not have a lacking sense of balance or defence like Eubanks. Chris often took shots flush a lot more often as well as against bigger opposition then Marvin did. Chris fought a very large CW in Thompson and took a ferocious beating and displayed a very unsettling case of Homer Simpson syndrome in a bout far removed from his best days. I believe English to be the more durable man, though as a side note I think Hagler would win a convincing UD against Chris.
Ive been asking the same thing for years and come to the same conclusion as you, Hagler isn’t remotely hurt and walks through Tommy’s shots as is the norm in the entirety of the fight.
From memory ! think Minter caught him a solid left hook, and momentary checked/stunned the great one.
