They aren't excuse, the are simply circumstances of the fight. A guy losing id he has an injury doesn't mean he wins if injury free. Seems too many fan boys here take the notification of an injury to mean that. Just look at Loma - Teo.

Beating a guy w/ an injury is a legitimate win. The "He woulda won if not injured" is just meaningless speculation. Might as well be a mythical matchup people are arguing about.

Real injuries occur and have been a legitimate cause of a loss. See Vitali Klitschko v Byrd. So as far as the question are injuries bad excuses? Real Injuries, no.

Made up injuries without medical proof, yes.

Repeated injuries to a very specific part of your body... depends on the specifics and the fighter. Mayweather jr. developed brittle hands, changed his style and went on to dominate.

Yes. If you have injuries delay the fight or be like Fury

Fury: If I lose, it means I lost to the better man

Injuries can happen during the fight. Or simply become exacerbated.

I won't look down on a fighter that gets injured during a fight. I'll except that excuse. I believe it's pathetic to claim an injury occurred prior to a fight , but wait until after a loss or poor performance to say something. IMO, it's a fabrication.

Depends on two things. The severity of the injury, and the legitimacy. If it's a bad injury, then no it's perfectly valid and a fine reason for a loss. If it's a load of absolute bollocks and a wind up, then yeah, it's a bad excuse. If it's a really bad one, where you can literally see how bad it is (like Pea vs Bojorquez) then there's no issues. If you're quitting due to a sprained wrist, or a broken knuckle, then boxing probably int for you.

Sometimes, it's obvious. Think Rigondeaux-Loma or Haye-Bellew I. Both incredibly obviously examples of legitimate and not. Other times it's much harder to discern. Who ****in knows if Loma actually had a shoulder injury vs Teo, or same again if Pacquiao had one vs Mayweather. I tend to but most things that had surgery though, since you don't put yourself through that and put actual scars on your body just for publicity.

    True explanations aren't excuses.

I think George C pretty much nailed it

I mean if a guy comes out healthy and then just twists the **** out of their knee or have a shoulder pop out or something its totally understandable

Other times you see a phantom quit job or a guy claim a lower body injury where they go on their bike all night or a guy with a hurt hand or shoulder throwing that hand hard all fight

Its really case by case but normally it's obvious

I'm sure every boxer has something you could call an injury.

If they make great fights then no excuse is needed for sometimes losing, if they don't then no excuse will help. I try to ignore it.

I'd like to add (probably with controversy) that going into a fight with an injury and developing one during a fight are different.

If it’s a legit injury, there’s no shame whatsoever in bringing it up after the fight. In fact, it would be silly not to. Boxing is a high-stakes sport where a few bad minutes can ruin your legacy and change your career. I mean, if you got a migraine headache while taking a high-stakes test or giving a major work presentation, wouldn’t you want the people evaluating you to know?

Hands can be dealt with sometimes, shoulders seem more complicated

If you've got will to win, you'll fight through dislocated shoulders, torn tendons, popped knees. No excuses. It's all mental. You'll find a way to move your limbs, that's what champions do.
