Would the fight Dokes vs Holyfield have turned out differently if Dokes were in his prime?

Dokes hand speed and skill was awesome for a heavyweight. If he had not done drugs he could have probably achived more than a short term WBA champ. If even a washed up Dokes could give Holyfield so much trouble try to imagine a prime Dokes

Straight after this fight, which I watched with a few pals we all came to the same conclusion. That if Dokes had been in prime, against THAT Holyfield, then Michael would have won. He took Holyfield s best shots much of the fight and gave him hell back.
So I stll belive that, in prime Dokes gets a decision.

Prime Dokes beats Holyfield. Evander timed his move into the heavyweight division at the right time when everyone was drugged and old and Michael was especially overweight and not as effective as he was in his prime.

Yes, that's what happened. Evander Holyfield timed his move to heavyweight to wait until Michael Dokes was drugged and old and overweight. (LOL)

Actually, Evander Holyfield timed his move to heavyweight to coincide with Mike Tyson destroying Spinks in one round to become undisputed champ.

The seemingly invincible Mike Tyson was on top when Holyfield moved up to heavyweight.

    Not Michael Dokes.

But they were both named "Mike" so I guess that's where you got confused. (That's sarcasm, in case Mark Ant is reading this. I don't want Mark to have to go into detail about how Dokes and Tyson weren't the same guy.)

This is a valid question that I dont easily dismiss. It is very possible that a healthy Dokes could have pulled out a decision. He took that what if out of his own hands though by becoming a bad addict so I dont feel bad for him

Mike didn't have the firepower or stamina. It would have been a better fight, but Holyfield stops him in 10.

No, result would have been the same, because I actually think Dokes got into phenomenal shape, perhaps the best of his life, for that fight, and fought a great fight, and would have fought exactly the same style years earlier. Bottom line is Holyfield just was better. Dokes' stock actually went up from that fight, because he never looked better, in an awesome fight. Sadly though, he never again was the same, and never again got into that type of shape.

Not to mention, Dokes threw low blows all- fight- long. As egregious as I've ever seen. So Holyfield could take body shots pretty well.

I'm pretty sure Holyfield would outlast Dokes in their respective primes. I really wanted to like Dokes back in the day, but he disappointed me too often (first Ocasio fight, Cobb, Coetzee, second Weaver fight).

Dokes could move better in his prime. The result may have been the same but I doubt it would have been such a war as Dokes would be forced to trade less frequently. I would still favor Holyfield overall.

He could have moved and boxed in his 79-82 form before the coke caught up to him. His legs were far less effective when he came back from what they had been in his prime. It's easy to see when you look at the fights

Holyfield is an ATG fighter who is versatile and is stronger than Dokes despite being smaller, he also probably has the harder punch, way better feet and chin, Dokes would've never beaten him

I think that Dokes's career could have been very differently, if he had been less distracted.

For all of that, I would baulk at picking any version of him over Holyfield.
