So perhaps he copied it from Ali:D. Seriously I don´t know.
However I think I read that Ali borrowed a lot of moves from another fighter Dundee trained, Willie Pastrano, I have seen some fights with him and he really moved a lot like Ali but not as good.

Welome Predator! I agree that Ali is forgotten around here due to the age of many of our posters. I'm betting you have seen much footage of Ali.

I also like some flashy styles. To me Robinson, Norris, Jones, Camacho, Ali were the flashiest and fastest.

Ali was the most exciting thing to happen to boxing in the last fifty years.

Nemesis, about Robinson, I have seen some fightclips with him but not enough to say anything, obviously he was great. I just need to see more fight´s. I´m sure he is great, he was the original SugarRay
For me flashy has to be done with style and finesse. Ali did that, Ray Leonard did that. I´m sure Robinson did as well.

Redrooster, about Ali, yes I have seen a lot of Ali. I have all his fight´s and a lot of other stuff. my father bought these fight´s on VHS during early 90´s, that was before youtube.

It's testament to just how much you hate Ray Leonard that you wouldn't even include him among the flashiest boxers ever. :nut

    On Ali.

For me, he will always be the best thing that ever happened to the sport and I believe a lot of boxing fans resent him because of how widely known he is outside of Boxing. This causes people to speak about Ali as the best even if they don't follow boxing, and the people who have all of Robinson's and pep's fights on film are pissed off at this. Still, for me he is the greatest ever and I wouldn't even limit that just to Heavyweight. I've watched Robinson but I refuse to acknowledge him as the greatest without having seen a large percent of his career.

Interesting you should also mention Ray Leonard, perhaps the most underrated all time great on ESB. Roberto Duran is given more credit for lasting 15 rounds with Hagler than Leonard gets for beating the man. Unbelievable.

Don't be ridiculous. Nobody's holding grudges against fighters unless it was Oscar, who by the way I am a fan of also. :bbb

And as for leonard he would get more respect from the boxing community if his fights weren't so well planned. I have always said this. YOu want to fight then come out and fight and stop making excuses why can't. Otherwise just stay out all together.

I have given my tribute to Leonard in my who's better thread. Ray gave his career best performance and in many ways actually improved as a fighter. Gone were the telegraphed, overanxious overhand rights that flew over the heads of opponents like Duran and Kalule. Ray was the best opponent Hagler had since Hearns and that should be enough for you to take comfort in.

I've always liked Ali as well, but lately have come to appreciate him a lot more. As far as I'm concerned the boxing world will always be in Mr. Ali's shadow.

There was nobody quite like him. His charisma, confidence, sense of humor, showmanship, and above all, the ability to always back up his talk and then some. In a most artful way. The "Rumble in the jungle" is a classic example. George Foreman was the scourge of the boxing world, and everybody lived in fear of him. Ali sure didn't; he laughed, joked and made it look
relatively easy in the ring. I don't know of anybody who could've done that to a young Foreman besides Muhammad. But that's just one example.

A classic combination of style and substance.

Ali being all those things, in addition to my own personal bias (my love of the 60's-70's in general), make me admit that, yeah, Muhammad ranks as one of my favorites too.

Fair do's matey, just go over Youtube to see a past-peak Robinson decimate top class opposition with bursts of dazzling combination punching
