Made me chuckle when Hearn said the Harper v Jonas rematch could sell out Sheffield or Liverpool Arena. It couldn’t sell out my back garden.
I totally agree making the rounds longer would just mean they tire quicker and loose all power and technique!! Like previous posts have said it seems like they’re hellbent on forcing it down our throats. Some of the women pro boxers are schoolboy level boys standard!!
Women's Football - Goalkeepers continue to let it down but it's improving Women's Tennis - Decent, if you want equal pay though you have to play 5 sets, make yourself undeniable Women's UFC - Brilliant, even though I'm not really into the sport Women's Boxing - Not enough quality as they try and rush building it without the necessary bricks and mortar
To be fair the proper next young wave of boxing talent in the women's game is just starting to come through. That's the women who would of seen the likes of Adams, Taylor etc at the Olympics. Some decent young fighters starting to come through, it'll take a few years yet still though for the competition to be better. Then there will be the next wave behind them, which is when I really expect the quality to be there at a consistent standard.
The reason why people think WMMA looks good is because the standard of the men is also generally pretty poor. In terms of talent pool and the level of athletes, MMA is still lightyears behind big established sports like football, boxing, tennis, athletics etc. So it's much easier for women to come in and not look too out place compared to the men. It's still absolutely terrible btw.
Amen to this. I’m sick of people praising MMA as if it’s the second coming. A bit of punching and missing followed by some homoerotic grappling on the floor. I might be simplifying it but it’s hardly the noble art. I think it’s a haven for people who aren’t very good at any one particular discipline, be it boxing, jujitsu, wrestling whatever. You don’t see many former Olympic champions in the UFC.
I've heard Potwash looks like Gina Yashere but doesn't have her sense of humour. Around Brixton they call Potwash the Black Victor Meldrew
It just smacks of a cheap way to pad out a card. What makes it worse is that the standard is poorer than two 14 year old boys going at in the local tesco's carpark. And what **** is it with 2 minute rounds, are they incapable of fighting for more than 2 minutes without a breather? I have always said if you want womens boxing, then put on womens boxing only cards please. That way I, and many other, wont have to have our mens boxing card, ****ed around with and interrupted with it. The participation levels in womens boxing will never be high enough to make it a decent sport. You cant build a watchable sport if the participation levels are so low and its so niche.
This is why womens boxing is a joke. Ebanie is fighting a 6-3-3 45yo and will get a world title after this fight.
So the population of the UK is 67 million, with 34 million women and 33 million men. The average attendance in the premier league, lets say 10 games or so every weekend is probably between 20,000-60,000 and then dropping slightly as you drop down the divisions. You’d say there’s probably (pre COVID) 1 million people watching football matches live. How many do you think are men or women? An ONS survey said 19% of men said they watch premier league football regularly, 6% of women. I’d say as you go down the division that gap widens. What I’m talking about is that there’s development lower down, fed back through the revenue the top level brings in. The revenue the top level brings in is directly linked to who pays to see, which is clearly proportionate male / female as above. If women boxing is to proceed, more people will need to watch female boxing. You think that female triple header that was on the other month was all women tuning in? It wasn’t, it was males interested in boxing. The current model only encourages the same - its not getting women interested in boxing just like women football isn’t really prompting more women to watch the game.
