Duran would still last and even damage Hagler more. Leonard would have been Koed pretty early.

 

Yeah, he stops both of them if he fights how he did vs Hearns. He'd have beaten Leonard clearly anyway if he didn't fight like an idiot for four rounds.

 

Duran ****s him up worse. Leo falls.

 

Hagler was aggressive against Leonard though, he just couldn’t get off while moving, and even when he did punch in those first 3-4 rounds, he missed

 

Hagler would have knocked them both out.

 

Leonard was too durable for Hagler at that stage of his career, Marvin did his best and it was not enough that night.

Against Duran it always left more to desire from Marvin I think he could stop Roberto if the mood struck for a step into the trenches but he seemingly didn’t want to engage that night he was just happy to box to an easy win.

 

By 87, Hagler was no longer Hagler.

 

Leonard was not more durable in fact he was ripe for the picking. Marvin lost his head and fought a bad fight. If he would of relaxed and fought his fight he could have stopped Ray. Duran at that time still goes the distance.

 

Probably. but what was stopping him from going forward. Sometimes I think when guys went easy on him he had doubts about what their plan was.. That was probably his weakness in that he could overthink and then get cautious. Hearns did not have that. Tommy would go for it and sometimes leave himself open, so they were different. Hagler fought like Hearns the most when he fought Hearns.

 

If Hagler had taken charge early Leonard would have went to the fouling even earlier than he did. Richard Steele was determined to let Ray do whatever he wanted that nite. I could be aggressive for a minute until Leonard winds up a bolo to my jewels. Richard Steele? " keep um up"
Leonard great boxer but he broke everyrule in the book outside of biting.

 

The first 5-6 rds against Leonard he Pratically gave away. I really believe he and his corner thought the 1st serious blow he landed, Leonard would fall over after being on the sidelines for almost 5yrs.
Yes he should've pressed both Leonard and Duran, not recklessly, but behind his jab, pushing them consistently.
If Hagler had one weakness it was his inability to shift gears. Especially when fighting slick fighters, every lost he had was against slick fighters.
I'll always believe any Middleweight in history that came at Hagler he cuts them in half easily. But force him to think , force him to initiate, he seemed to falls to sleep.
Hagler should've come out against Leonard and Duran,like he did against Hearns, just not as recklessly, he was the naturally bigger and stronger fighter. Pressured both of them from the very 1st rd. He may not have K'oed them, but there would be no question who the winner was.

Yea and it's my opinion! Isnt that what this forum basically comes down too. For crying out loud Leonard couldnt even fight 3 minutes a round at that point.
