Did Cassius Clay really have all this respect for Howard Cossel?

Yeah, this is all mostly just a debate over terminology. Whether the NOI was "racist" or not, they were certainly racially biased and outspokenly bigoted.

The Black Panther Party was completely different though.

Ali changed his views just as Malcolm X did after visiting Egypt and other Muslim countries, and seeing Muslims of all colours and race.

The difference between Ali and Cossel and Mayweather Jr and Merchant was Ali/Cassel wasn't mean spirted, and entertaining.
Mayweather Jr. Wishes he had the chrisma and charm of Ali. If he did, he wouldn't need to be an ass to get attention.

I respect your views on the subject but we have to agree to disagree on this matter.

Did you see the ESPN broadcast of Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosel doing commentary on his fight with Ernie Terrell ? ( they’re watching it like a week after ) and Ali went on a rant said “ You’re the only one who is sticking up for me Howard “. (I’m just saying)

Howard COSELL (lots of misspellings in this thread) was a very charismatic broadcaster. He and MUHAMMAD ALI had a unique chemistry that Ali didn't have with other reporters.

Nat Fleischer of the Ring was another media person who stuck by Ali. Ring only revoked Ali's title when Ali announced his retirement in February 1970, immediately prior to the Joe Frazier - Jimmy Ellis fight ("Down goes Ellis! Down goes Ellis!" screamed Mr. Cosell.). In a Ring editorial from late 1969, Fleischer expressed frustration that Ali never came to visit Ring when he was in New York nor thank Ring for still recognizing him as champ.

“Docile” is one of the last things I’d use to describe Howard Cosell. He was widely despised in his time for being a condescending, ******* egomaniac.

I’m guessing Ali liked him well enough as he showed Ali enough respect to call him by his name, and also knew they made for good TV
