What is funny about this knockout is James Tillis was asked who hit him the hardest. He stated Ernie Shavers who couldn't knock him down or beat him. He didn't mention Tim Witherspoon or Tommy Morrison who put him to bed in 1 rounds. Which is why you can't take a fighters word for it when it comes to who hit them the hardest.

Shavers did floor Tillis though. It’s on a site called Boxrec if you want to study this bout further.

Really good site with useful info. Check it out!

Right in any case Shavers didn't knock him out. Witherspoon and Morrison did it in one round and Tillis has nothing to say about their punching power.

That was around the time before the upset loss to Bone-crusher Smith right? If I remember correctly the winner of Smith vs Witherspoon was setup to fight Tyson.

Tillis was an enigma. This fight was in Sept 83 and in May 86 he faced the rampaging Tyson 18 - 0 18 ko and was the first fighter to take Iron Mike the distance . And if you have seen the fight it was a competitive bout.

This was the last hurrah for James. He started off nice, but slipped in that corner and Tim got him. He probably also doesn't remember the time that Greg almost had him out in the first round, but played around and had to do it in the 8th.

Shavers decked him the 9th; but your message is still the same in a way; he still won the Shavers fight

This victory of Spoon's is one of his most impressive. The reason being that throughout all of Spoon's career, Tillis was the highest caliber fighter he destroyed that quickly. Second, in the days when Tillis posed a reasonable threat in the heavyweight division, no one ever stopped him more quickly and more decisively than Witherspoon did.

Amazing how the fat heavyweights of the 80’s look positively leaner than many of today’s ‘athletes’ at heavyweight

Wow! Spoon here looks very good. To get a quick ko over Tillis Is a fantastic result. Probably why Tyson s team got him, thought that Tillis would get hammered fast.

Tim was great! Tillis was a very good boxer too. I don't like when the announcers crack jokes about the boxers though, one said now we know why he's called quick. Us guys at home watching can do that, but I don't think its proper for an annouicer to do.

Neither Tillis or Witherspoon were fat in this bout. Tillis was at his optimum 208 and Witherspoon was at 222.

Trust me Page and Tubbs often looked fat and at times Witherspoon did as well.

Cheers pal, thats my channel you found the fight on. Im working on trying to find a better version of Witherspoon vs Tillis as that copy is pretty unwatchable.
