Also, studying film of old fighters is an art.

You need to replay it multiple times in slow motion, to figure out what is happening.

Also people have tried to correct these problems with the footage, by stabilizing the image, and other techniques.

Honestly I think you would feel different if the footage wasn't so grainy and chopped up. If we had full fights from the 20s and 30s in color/sound 4k HD those fighters wouldn't look nearly as bad imo. I come to that conclusion over having thought the same thing at one point then seriously looking at the footage over and over and over a ridiculous amount over the years. So I totally understand your position and I'm not saying it is unfounded.

 

No matter what I see I’ll always stand by the last sentence. I can’t see Dempsey beating any good big heavyweight.

That pretty much shows you're being irrational though. Your mind should always be open to be changed. If you really believed in your own position then you'd say "From everything I've ever seen, I'll always stand by my last sentence.". Instead you're pretty much saying that if you saw some footage of good big heavyweights being obliterated by a 190 lb 6' dude you wouldn't even reconsider your position. Even if there was footage of Dempsey mauling good big heavyweights then you still wouldn't change your mind. Or if in modern times a fighter like Beterbiev moved up to heavyweight and by some stroke of luck beat the top guys, you still wouldn't think it possible for Dempsey to mimic that.

My advice is for you to let your opinions constantly be put up to be questioned and let your mind be opened to change. You'll become very wise that way.

 

I’ll become a flat earther before I’d back Dempsey to beat Joshua, Fury, Wilder, Whyte, Parker, Ruiz etc. Man is just too small.

 

Lmao he thinks 5”7 Tommy Burns would beat Wilder? Surely not.

 

Dempsey is obviously greater, but boxing has evolved, they punch with better technique and boxers have discovered more ways to set up attacks and defend now, plus the 60 lbs weight advantage and Dempsey coming right at him Ruiz would win, fighters are WAY more polished now

 

Also it’s worth mentioning the gloves are more padded today than they were back then. Put Ruiz in those smaller gloves they were wearing back then and he’d look like a destructive puncher against those 185 lb heavyweights of the 20s.

Nah I’m just gonna continue to not believe in the hype of old timers. They were very good fighters(in their day) but it’s a different era and they can’t compete with the best modern fighters 100 years later. I firmly believe that.
