Ingemar Johansson vs Oscar Ringo Bonavena, both prime.

That`s quite tough to decide, but I go with Bonavena. Ingemar Johansson might be the favourite on paper, but I doubt, that Johansson would knock Bonavena out. Bonavena had a really good chin, was more fericious with a better workrate. I guess, he would be a bit to much for Johansson. Though Johansson is still dangerous with his unpredictable style and his right (alias "Thors hammer").

 

I see Oscar as the better fighter, the more durable. He'd take Ingo s bingo and get a decision imo.

 

Ringo wins this, too rough and tough for the Swede.

 

Prime for prime Ingo would find his mark and take Bonavena out.

Bonavena was durable and had a lot of natural talent, but had a bad habit of losing focus as the fight progressed, which cost him a lot of his important fights and would make him easy pickings for Ingo’s bingo in the later rounds.

Also, Ingo in his prime was relentless once he landed clean on his opponent, so even if Bonavena gets up after taking Ingo’s right hand Ingo would be on him like a second skin until the ref stepped in.

 

Another vote for Bonavena.

 

Oscar goes the distance twice with Frazier but can't make it with Ingo?

Different styles. Frazier was going right at Oscar and was always directly in front of him, which is the type of fight that worked to Oscar’s advantage.

Ingo on the other hand wouldn’t be coming directly at Oscar and would almost never be standing directly in front of Oscar, but instead would be moving around the ring and throwing feints to get Oscar to walk into his Bingo.

Oscar had a lot trouble with guys that used footwork, ring mobility, and sneaked their shots in on him, so I see him having a much harder time with Ingo’s style in comparison to Frazier’s.

 

Neither Folley,Patterson, or Ellis could stop Ringo either, so I don't see the one handed Ingo doing it.

 

Liston, Patterson, Folley, and Cleveland Williams couldn’t stop Machen, but Ingo did, which is why styles matter.

 

Bonavena by decision, too durable, too tough.

 

Eddie Machen and Zora Folley were pretty close to the same kind of level.

Bonavena lost to Zora.

Ingo beat Machen. Easily.

Ingo also sparked Patterson whereas an old Patterson still had what it took to beat prime Ringo.

For those reasons I am going for prime 1959 Ingo besting Ringo. But of course the Ingo after 1960, Bonavena has a real chance of winning.
