The vacant regular WBA heavyweight title it at stake. Bryan is the #1 contender, while Stiverne, a former holder of the green belt, is absent from the organization's top 15 rankings having not fought in 2 years.
Wouldnt say no way, but youre right not very likely. Depends what stiverne has left and if he shows up to fight
Pity the original main event fell thru as don't expect this to be that competitive or last long. Haven't seen weigh ins but don't expect Stiverne to be in great shape considering how he has looked when he does get full training camp etc
Funnier thing is that beating Stiverne ought to net about the same amount of credit bearing Charr would've. Stiverne has actually fought a good deal more recently, and unlike Charr has actually held a piece of a world championship that hasn't deteriorated into quite the shambolic and unprestigious charnel house the WBA regular has.
According to the page where you buy the card, they still don't know who the opponent is in the co-main. "The co-main event will feature Cruiserweight Raphael Murphy and his opponent who will soon be announced. The undercard features: Four-round Bantamweight Bout Joahnys Argilagos vs Ernie Marquez Ten-round Heavyweight Bout Ronald Johnson vs Terrell Woods"
Funnily enough a win for Bryan here puts him in a great position for a big money fight. No doubt we won't see him for another 2 years after this though.
He's just got to wait until Oquendo's sixtieth birthday (April fool's 2033 - only a dozen years away!) when the WBA finally let him cash in that money in the bank mandatory briefcase or whatever.
I've been trying to work up a degree of enthusiasm to watch this card for the last two hours, thus far my efforts have been unsuccessful.
