Good point and LH may have been a step too far but he was still better than any welter fighting today, Spence may be bigger but he doesn`t punch correctly Robi knocked out Fullmer with one punch, no way could Spence have dne that, I don`t know how much Ray weighed when he fougt Fullmer but he still would have toyed with Spence because he`s so easy to counter, Bud would have been far harder for Ray to beat.

Yeah, but Gonzalez obviously wouldn’t do very well in the modern era because of that.

I’m not trying to be sarcastic, so if I can explain my point without that, that would be good thank you
A lot of fighters in the Robinson era such as Robinson and Gavilan would punch, but their technique was like their arms were moving like rope when they punch, Roman Gonzalez is loose and free flowing, but his arms don’t move in a rope-like motion when he punches and I feel like people don’t punch like that anymore for a reason

I think Robinson would have to adjust to certain changes in fighting styles, for example the fact that top fighters today tend to be far less aggressive and more defensively-oriented than they were in previous eras. Guys seem to open up a lot less these days, which could be a mixed blessing for Robinson. He's not going to have guys throwing big lead hooks at him or whaling away at him at close range either.

One should not feel "tense" while punching, but punching is supposed to be explosive, not loose. Punching loose will feel faster because you'll be putting less force into the punch. You're supposed to flex the waist, the lats, the shoulders, and the biceps during a punch. If you punch loose then you'll be flexing only the waist at best. Punching is NOT a whip, a very common misconception. It is a full-body, compound movement. Go on the heavy bag and you'll see the more "explosive" punches are clearly harder than the loose punches; you'll also see that the "explosive" punches have faster initial speed than the loose punches, which is key to not telegraphing. Robinson didn't throw his power punches loose, but he did commit the flaw of throwing his jab loose, which often led him to get countered by hard jabs from shorter, shorter-armed, slower fighters such as Lamotta because loose punches start out slower and have less power.

To clarify, you’re saying nothing is wrong with their technique, but you still think it looks funny?

This is the guy who lost to an onion farmer, right?

    Just inside the top 10.

Remember Sugar Ray Robinson had a great corner and management, they were consistent. George Gainford was terrific, they would have devised a plan to defeat both Errol Spence and Canelo Alvarez, plus the speed and accuracy that Robinson had, remember the lightning like left hook that took out Gene Fullmer on May 1 1957, in round 5.

Robi`s hooks were technically perfect and his punch technique was far better than Gavilan`s which is why he had so much more shap in his shots, his punch technique was far more correct`s than that of Spence who has no one punch power.

Robi`s era was more skilled than today`s era.
