I’m interested to see why people are picking Charles because I’ve seen the other threads where everyone picks Charles and I can’t see why, Spinks has every advantage, height, reach, power, jab, speed, defence, feet, better ring IQ imo
Who wins this matchup in your opinion and why?
Also I know Charles is a great fighter, but I don’t see any advantage for him even the styles don’t suit him

@George Crowcroft. is a big Charles fan, perhaps he can give an opinion. I don’t know either enough to comment but I’m interested to see what people say. To me it does look like Spinks tbf but it’s a guess

The only excuse for thinking Spinks had every advantage over Charles is mental illness or impaired sight.

Defence, form, feet, inside game, chin, heart, body punching, combination punching, etc

I don't even see how you could argue at least six of those.

There is no knowing if he had a better chin or heart as Spinks was never hurt at light heavyweight and was never even hurt by Larry Holmes, Spinks was very light on his feet and nimble whereas Charles could stand flat footed at times Spinks definitely had better feet, Charles was the better body puncher, but it would’ve been a disadvantage for Spinks to go to the body often because he was very tall and had a very long reach for the weight so it was for the best that he didn’t go to the body often and combination punching again is not always good for a tall fighter to do, throw a bunch of punches body and head and risk getting caught in between

You just wrote an awful lot to be wrong. It's well known that Larry shook Spinks. Fought about three punches in his career, two of them were clearly past their best, and the other took him out in one round.

Charles fought about 30, and was only ever stopped twice in his prime. Once while very poorly trained and carrying a back injury, the other by one of the greatest punchers ever thrown by an awesome counter-puncher. Spinks would've never gone fifteen with Marciano and never showed his chin vs somebody as powerful as Archie Moore, or even, Jimmy Bivins.

As for Heart, you can bet the house that Charles'd never have frozen up like Spinks did vs Tyson. And he certainly would've put a more effort in getting up.

Spinks used body punching all the time, and he throw in combinations just as often.

As for better feet, Charles could be just as nimble and graceful when moving. He also could stand in the pocket and pick his shots. Unless you're watching him when weighed 200lbs and was riddled with Lou Gehrig's, he was never 'plodding'.

Anyway, all of this is virtually irrelevant now. You admitted Charles was better at something so my work here is done.

Better at something and an advantage are 2 different things, Charles’s body punching would not be an advantage as Spinks’s jab and boxing from range would neutralise that, I said Spinks has every advantage not that he was better at everything

Yes Charles did fight 30 power punchers and Spinks fought 3, but fighters in Charles’s era fought way more so they were bound to come across more power punchers, and it is not good to fight the amount of times Charles’s fought especially for your health
How do we know that he wouldn’t have gone 15 rounds with Marciano? Spinks had very good movement and defensive skills, he definitely would have frustrated Marciano with the awkward movement.
Spinks did use body punching and combinations in the Holmes fight, but I am talking about light heavyweight Spinks when he fought smaller fighters he would keep it at a normal pace he wouldn’t throw combinations body and head at all
And no Spinks definitely had better feet than Charles, Charles never showed foot movement how Spinks showed it in the Qawi fight and it is very hard to move away from Qawi for the full distance and Spinks made it look easy, there is no way Spinks didn’t have better footwork than Charles, also I don’t see Charles staying away from Qawi the way Spinks did, I definitely think that Charles would have to mix it with Qawi at times because he couldn’t keep moving away from him

How is his his correct? I’m not saying my post is better, I just see both of our posts displaying good points regardless whether I or he disagree with some of each others points
