Caleb Plant -- he has been interview several times since his fight on Saturday and when asked about Alvarez, he seems almost dismissive. Instead of saying I want to fight Alvarez next, he'll say "I'll fight anyone next" or "I'll fight anyone right here on FOX". My question is: what are Plant strength and weaknesses? You can list one or both. Is being slick enough to beat Alvarez? everyone keeps bringing up the Lara fight as Alvarez Achilles heel.
From what I have seen, his defense is pretty slick which is one of his strengths which is obvious. One of his weaknesses I think is the he leaves his left hand below the waist, once someone figures that, he will be getting a lot of trouble.
Strengths to me are his IQ, his skills, his defence. His weaknesses are 1. Lack of power is really holding him back. Distant second is 2. I believe hes lacking a bit of physicality.
He's slick and has great conditioning but he's not fought top tier opposition so it's hard to gauge how good he really is. The only outcome I can see with him vs Canelo is that Canelo stops him
He has some good defense and boxing skills. I think he's a little slow. Both in terms of handspeed but also ok his twitch reflex to throw which I think makes his counter punching and power a little lackluster.
His big mouth and in particular making the mistake of running it about David Benavidez who is a nasty SOB in between those ropes at the best of times. Benavidez enjoys inflicting pain on his opponents even if they don't **** him off but Plant's writing checks his ass can't cash and he's talking himself into a brutal beating. That and his lack of power.
Good footwork, good defensive instincts, & he looked lightning quick and precise against Truax (for what it's worth), but he's never really been in tough so we know very little about his heart or versatility... How would he respond to real pressure from a bigger guy like Benavidez? Does he have an inside game? Does he have a chin? Does he have the energy to run & potshot for 12 rounds against a stalker like Canelo? Unless there are answers in his pre-Uzcategui fights (I have no idea tbh), there's only one way to find out and it doesn't like he or PBC are interested in taking that route (until he loses that 0 at any rate).
