Ready for this evenings fight. Not sure what to expect, whether it will just be rehashed headlines from the Irish Press or some real smoking guns. A sport hasn't returned to the BBC with such grace since Royal Ascot featured in the documentary about Sheikh Mohammed kidnapping and inprisoning his own daughter.
Usually if it cotains something really bad then it would already be in the headlines this morning. Still worth a watch especially to people like myself who know nothing about this guy or family..
Boxing and the Mob from 9pm on BBC 1. Panorama special I surprised that they are showing this given the possible legal sensitivities involved.
Well the BBC aren’t daft enough to broadcast anything that’s going to get them successfully sued. Plus this isn’t exactly Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson go snooping, it’ll be guys that understand this world and will know exactly what they’re doing. As nuro said though, anything proper grim or juicy it reveals would’ve been all over the papers, especially with Fury’s involvement with them.
The BBC don’t screen boxing currently and aren’t likely to in the near future- that had to be a consideration when making this programme. I doubt Sky/BT/Channel 5 would go in that hard in a boxing expose as not to undermine what is an attraction for each broadcaster. Sad to say that but true. When was the last major expose of boxing in this country? I can’t remember one in recent memory- there was a documentary of the shady workings of the sport in the eighties but it was more on the matchmaking side (padding records) and not on any alleged criminal activity.
Brilliant, Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson go snooping. I'd love to see that particularly if it involved some mafia types. Hopefully followed by Matt Macklin and Tony Bellew Investigate.
Could be a bit tasty, this. Quite a few MTK boxers out to defend it. Including Sunny Edwards, which is a shame as I think he is pretty sound
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55888592 The initial article on BBC just now about Kinehan still operating in boxing. Will be interesting if there is a fall out particularly with Fury being repped by him. Plus they are talking about £100m payday for the AJ fight if this gains momentum could cause all sorts of problems with site fees being blamed for funding organised crime
Something’s definitely gonna hit the fan in the next 48 hours. Unless you were a huge boxing fan or already familiar with the Kinahans (which most people aren’t) you wouldn’t have known about this story. In the next few days I’d guess a couple of million people will see it or read about it so it’s gonna be interesting to see how far the story goes.
