Everybody has to love Larry Holmes, the dude is a legend but when it comes to his amateur career, he doesn't look that great. I love looking at amateur fights and seeing Holmes dance around the ring gives me excitement, but was this the ONLY clip of Larry Holmes as a Amateur before Bobick took him off the board? Let me know if there are more clips of this legend.

    I haven't seen any others.

I have heard Holmes was stopped by a southpaw as an amateur. I have always found it hard to believe since he was never stopped as a pro in his prime.

I was thinking of looking it up on Wiki and search the tournament's he was in but I don't think anything will come up sadly. I am doing my research for some more amateur vids from Larry Holmes.

I believe it. Southpaws are a pain in the ass to jab with.

The trap a lot of orthodox fighters as well as even great Southpaws (Khaosai Galaxy off the top of my head) fall into when fighting one another is not securing the outside foot position.

Tua was stopped young it happens, if you have ever boxed or sparred often you may have noticed for a time there was a lineal growth of toughness. (this happened to myself anyways) it could also be due to how raw he was he failed to secure the outside foot position and was railed with straight lefts without being able to adapt.

While they were basically the same age, Bobick is by far the more mature and seasoned amateur here. He’s a year removed from a victory over Teofilo Stevenson when this took place.

This was the US Olympic team box off according to boxrec. Holmes had been boxing for 3 years at this point. Bobick had grown up in a boxing family so he had much more experience at this point.

Holmes was stopped twice by southpaw Nick Wells as an amateur. Wells was a big puncher, if you check Holmes' and Wells' amateur fights on BoxRec, there is a strange result on Wells' record. He and Earnie Shavers, two big punchers fought to a decision.

That is overrated. You can step to the inside you just need to understand this benefits your lead hook instead of the rear hand. See Andre Ward knocking down Chad Dawson. https://i.imgur.com/iFBf7dB.mp4
