WBO super featherweight title at stake, third defense of Herring. Frampton is the 4th ranked contender.
Herring has been really lucky thus far, sure he's been able to use his size and slickness to his advantage, since moving down from Lightweight,. but let's be honest, it's not like he's really been put to the test all that much. Oquendo is well past it, and that was a gift DQ from the ref to Herring, because he was falling apart in a bad way at the end of that match, as far as Ito goes, he's good when it comes to counter punching aggressive fighters, sadly what's so often the case, he sucks at counter punching counter punchers. He doesn't really know how to be aggressive, much less effectively aggressive. As far as Roach goes, he failed to impress against Cruz or Oquendo himself, and even he managed to buzz Herring. Frampton is just too wily, slippery, versatile and diverse in hs attack for a guy like Herring to deal with, his real level will be exposed again, Frampton will dismantle and stop Herring, and probably with body work, in 8.
Lbs for lbs, Frampton is a beter fight, but I just wonder ig the size difference may be too much. Its not that long ago that these guys were fight THREE weight categories apart. Going to be a hige test for Frampton.
I'm not that sold on Frampton lately , plus I can't stand the dwarf so I'm hoping herring gives him the business
I ‘ve been flop-flipping on this pick. I see Herring utilizing his reach and speed, and being able to keep Frampton from getting in. I also see Frampton wading in, and doing the harder work, drawing Herring into a fight, and landing the cleaner shots. I think Frampton wins a real tight decision. Perhaps of rhe md/sd variety.
Herring will do fine vs slower boxers at 130...he is not facing Pacman or Morales, if Herring wants to be the first man to stop Frampton he can use his size advantage to push for the KO, but Herring prefers to use his size advantage to outbox opponents, so more than likely it will be another decision win.
Winnable fight for Frampton. Herring has no inside game and predominantly counter punches. Frampton has more tools and a much better inside game. If Frampton can get past the reach he can win. Don't see Frampton beating anyone else at that weight
Possibly, but Frampton is on the back end of his career. Had a few wars, tasted defeat and not a natural at the weight himself. I'm not certain he beats Herring tbh.
Herring is the guy most capable of imposing his physicality in the weight class but luckily his style doesn't gear towards using that. For that reason alone I'd favour Frampton slightly. I think JoJo Diaz may be even easier than Herring because of the lack of size advantage and average pop. Frampton could still hypothetically get a belt in a third weight class, could even unify.
