Either way I agree on refs letting it go too long my examples both involve ingemar Johansson with his Patterson and machen wins. Neither should have continued anywhere near the duration and brutality that was allowed
Jay Nady seemed to be observing it in the Trinidad-Vargas fight. I can't remember whether the rule was in effect or not but Vargas went down twice in the first and I have some vague recollection (maybe false) that the commentary team said the rule was in effect. Vargas survived the round but then Nady allowed Vargas to be knocked down 3 times in the final round even though it was clear after at least the second KD that Vargas was finished.
3KD rule is quite fair and may save some fighters from life-altering beatings. I'm not interested in seeing guys get crippled for my entertainment. What's next, corner stoppages are ruled out? Some guys are just too brave for their own good.
Im talking about instances where fighters are fine and able bodied not ****ing being bounced off the canvas.
Exactly - I feel when the 3KD rule is in effect, the ref could perhaps be more conflicted about stopping a fight after one or two knockdowns (when it may actually need to be stopped).
It would also probably lead to refs being left with some hard choices to make for example the Fisherman vs Moore.
It’s the rigidity of it. Some fighters can go down 3 times in a round but they’re largely ok, has been mentioned Barkley could have continued against Benn in my opinion. Then a fighter can be knocked down once gets up but is obviously out of it and might even get to the end of the round but he really shouldn’t be allowed to go on. I’ve never been mad on it.
I am usually the "air on the side of caution" guy but the 3 KD rule should be discretionary and up to the ref. Especially in title fights.
