I will be watching - but i wont be paying. I pay enough in taxes, to not be taxed to watch TV events that I shouldnt be charged for . Income tax, council tax are taxes I get locked up for not paying. TV tax not so much.
To be frank a large proportion of people have already been driven to alternative methods of watching these PPVs When every half decent card is now PPV, with cards that would have been free saturday night, now PPV. They are taking the ****ing ****, and they know it. I actually wouldnt mind paying for PPVs if they were only 1-2 times per year and only for the mega mega fights. But that ship sailed away a long time ago.
Does it matter? The biggest fight on the planet for a long long time. If people what to stream it fair enough but millions will pay for it whether it's £40quid or not.
The sad part of that Simon Jordan interview is that the projected PPV buys for the fight is around two million- massive for UK PPV but tiny for actual UK viewership of what arguably is the biggest British Heavyweight fight of all time. Another reason for the high price could be the uncertainty around pubs opening- pubs contribute to the PPV butyrate too.
I think the main thing he was saying that for some reason 100m is the figure that they MUST get. What he was really inkling to was why do they have to be getting 100m. It's like if they don't get that that there not prepared to do it. He's then saying it's the fans who are expected to be charged more so Joshua / Fury can make that insane amount of money.
I know the arguement that they are putting their lives on the line but it does leave a bitter taste in the mouth that "they" should be seeking such a large payday from people who are losing their jobs. Should they do it for free then? Thats the counter arguement and the answer is no. The only correct answer is there is a value somewhere in the middle. For me, personally, I don't feel its good value for the customer.
Bolded bit - There's a host of other jobs with greater risk and higher mortality rate than pro boxing such as farming and construction work, industries that are actually needed and contribute something. Don't see the average bricklayer or potato farmer asking for 50 million. Bit of perspective.
Spot on. They don’t need this fight they could retire now and live 50 lifetimes comfortably so that makes the lives on the line argument void. Bin men is the most dangerous job in the country. The stats are quite shocking, they get ran over and battered quite a lot.
It’s so exciting as well. I had Fury Wilder 1 on the radio, it was unbelievable. I also had a big bet by my standards on BJS against Eubank and not seeing what was going on when he was hanging on in the last couple got the blood pumping.
As Simon Jordan said, it just seems to be an accepted sum. They must get 100 million each. Absolutely ludicrous.
