He is one of them fighters time will help. In fifty years time, he will be generally considered a top five fighter. He is too polarising at the moment.
Cos everything in boxing in that regard had already been set in stone and will never change no matter what man will rise to challenge the established status quo. Mayweather ain’t that man in any case but still some boxing accolades will never change. Robinson will always be p4p the greatest of all time and the greatest welterweight Ali and Louis will always be the top 2 greatest heavyweights in whatever order. Duran best lightweight ever, Pep best defensive fighter, Hagler was always bald and so on.
Robinson being the pound for pound GOAT is an idea that’s been increasingly challenged in the Internet era. Duran’s Lightweight status and Pep’s defensive status aren’t set in stone, either. Though to be fair Duran’s ranking at Lightweight still doesn’t get challenged enough. It marks a pretty glaring inconsistency for a lot of the boxing community when it comes to rating fighters at individual weight classes, too. If accomplishments at other weights aren’t supposed to factor in (which so many claim when it’s convenient) then not only is it not set in stone, it’s flat out wrong to rank him #1. His Lightweight body of work doesn’t come close to Benny Leonard’s.
This is an opportunity to take a look at Robinson's record for yourself. I don't know the answer but going through the list of names on his record may start to change the way you see it. Ray fought that much because he had to. If he were here Robinson would applaud Mayweather for getting his $ and getting out with his health. That record though can't be dealt with. It was forged in fire. Floyd also never had to go 15. It makes it tough for a modem great to be taken seriously against that calibar of All Time great champion. Too much has been legislated out of the game. Floyd was the best of his time. Top 25 P4P off n the top.
Mayweather fans put it out there in black and white. 50-0. That first # is the problem. Kinda small she said. She was expecting more. Well maybe he only fight 4 or 5 years. 20 years? Roberto Duran 72-1 at his peak. Ray Robinson 127-1-1 at his peak Greb had a uncommon # of fights.
I agree with what you're saying, but he would've beaten prime Pacquiao if Pacquiao agreed to fight with VADA testing
Pacquiao has the greater resume imo ,because of when he fought them and coming up in weight against prime guys. Mayweather is a great fighter but something of a cherry picker too, imo.I would not pick Mayweather against Robinson, Leonard,or Hearns.Thomas Hauser gave a great breakdown on Floyd, illustrating far more eloquently than I,what I have alluded to. Bottom line,he doesnt crack my top tenP4P ,and probably not my top 15.
I don't disagree with anything your saying here. I just don't understand how Floyd happening to have proportionately long arms could be used as a knock against him. Same with the no black opponents at 154. That's a nitpick and a half
