Calzaghe fans! Be honest, would Joe have won if he'd been fighting 2001-2005 B-Hop??

Since there is an IF involved, I'd say " IF " Calzaghe never had hand problems. he'd win ( at 168 ) anyway

 

There's no way that Hopkins could ever beat Calzaghe ... he's not that type of fighter.

 

The fight was a split decision, one of the judges gave it to Hopkins. Hopkins had previously been beaten twice by Taylor and was 43.

A younger Hopkins only has to do a bit more and he wins that fight. Things like this annoy me because in a few month we will be having; Would Calzaghe beat a younger jones.... "well he beat an old one and I can't see much more a younger one would do"...


Calzaghe was red hot favourite to beat Hopkins. Hopkins would have been red hot favourite had he been a younger version. That should tell people all they need to know. All the bookies would have Hopkins winning if they fought at a younger age.

 

well, styles make fights and b-hop had the right gameplan not the right age!

 

Age had nothing to do with it ... the Hopkins that fought Calzaghe didn't look any different from the Hopkins that fought Tito or DLH ... or Winky ...

I think thats a bunch of bull**** ... I gave the Calzaghe fans **** before the fight and the one thing I said in a thread is that the age isn't going to mean **** ... they both been in the game since the early 90's ... Hopkins since the late 80's

Once you're in the game that long ... have had 20 title defense each ... never been knocked out ... with the type of consistancy ... age and all that other bull**** gets thrown out the window.

 

Thats the truth. The Hopkins fans all want to take him back to his prime and forget that Joe is also past his best.

 

No one said anything about age when Hopkins beat Tarver --

 

I'd take a prime Hopkins over a prime Calzaghe.

 

Calzaghe will not beat Jones

 

A younger Hopkins wouldnt have held so much and spoiled. The result? Joe would have landed much more. Had Hopkins been younger, Joe's victory would have been wider.

 

There's not too many people in the history of the division that can **** with Calzaghe seriously ... he's a different kinda fighter ... now with that being said he's beatable ... it just hasn't happened yet (or might not happen) ... I don't hold him in that high of rerguard but ... hell its hard to have 21 defenses, no matter who you're fighting ... its hard to stay undefeated for 15 yrs ... no matter who you're fighting.

I agree ... Hopkins wasn't as lethal as people are making him out to be ... he was a boring ass fighter ... who held alot and hit while he was holding.

He was never this devastating KO puncher or anything like that ... he wasn't even exciting to watch ...

Like Roy Jones said ... he got his name off one guy ...

 

What was so different with the Hopkins that fought Calzaghe ... no one thought he was too much over the hill ... he did win a LHW championship by beating Tarver.
