Qawi wasn’t a heavyweight and shouldn’t have fought at that weight. If Wilder can connect the right hand, it’s over.
Qawi’s jab, sneaky counter’s, and ability to duck under punches are all wrong for Wilder. It took Foreman’s short hooks and uppercuts to make Qawi quit, but in the early and midrounds Foreman was eating a lot of leather. Wilder would have an extremely hard time connecting clean on Qawi, who was 5’6” and was better at bobbing and weaving than Joe Frazier himself, so I don’t see Wilder being very effective. That said Qawi at heavyweight was fat, so if the fight gets to the later rounds Qawi would probably tire and stop moving his head as much, which wouldn’t greatly increase the chances of Wilder connecting and knocking him out.
Interesting match up. Wilder can’t fight on the inside and can’t handle pressure. Quawi’s a foot shorter than wilder so he’d be forced to work the body. Quawi’s best chance is to fight a perfect fight and score a tko during the mid rounds, even then he has to avoid the big right hand. If quawi can’t pull that off wilder stops him late. I’m leaning towards Wilder.
I think the CW Qawi who fought Holyfield and Spinks has an outside chance of getting upclose and ripening Wilder for a stoppage via a nasty body attack. But my gut instinct is that Wilder is just way too big and when he lands his brutal cross, it's over. Qawi was too small.
Qawi even by his own admission should not of been fighting at heavyweight. I think this is a bad matchup for the Qawi as maybe he surprises Wilder with some shots early, but as soon as Wilder connects clean with the right its over for Dwight (that also rhymes so it has to be true).
Wilder points.Huge size disparity. At this stage of his career, old and overweight, that is too much for Dwight to overcome.
Tough fight indeed, but Wilder has too many physical advantages to lose this one. Braxton would fight hard and fight tough, but the end would come swiftly and brutally, and without warning
