RIP Mr. Spinks...I had the pleasure of meeting Leon and his wife over 20+ years ago in Chicago. He was already past prime and was training, wearing work boots while running. He was a true gentleman and nice guy who took time to speak with me. I told him how much I admired the heart he showed in the ring. The sports media people liked to make fun of Leon and his missing teeth and slurred speech but they really never captured how good a person he was and how much grit he showed in his fights. I’ll never forget how kind he and his wife were to me. RIP Champ.
Richard Pryor on Leon Spinks when, for that brief moment, Leon was the Heavyweight Champion of the whole wide world. One of those guys everyone liked. RIP Leon. https://alchetron.com/cdn/leon-spinks-2fcfc8f7-e69f-49c6-b5fa-0a2dda344e6-resize-750.jpeg This content is protected
