This. Lennox had a lot of talent, but was also as arrogant as they come. I could definitely see another Rahman moment when Lennox horses around only to get the grin knocked off his face when Marciano finds his chin and puts him on his back.
See the cut damage a 180 pound Charles did to Rockys eye and later nose, imagine the damage that a 240+ pound 6'5 Lewis would do, let us say i hope the ref is not the queasy type.
Years ago, when I was still drinking the Rocky kool-aid, I picked him to KO Lewis on the sole basis of Lewis's losses to Rahman and McCall. Now that I'm more open-minded (at least I like to think so). I realize that was nothing more than a Cinderella story. Much as I'd love Rocky to prove he can hang with modern heavies, I also realize that although he had a heart like no other, He had many limitations he simply wouldn't be able to get away with today. Against Lewis, he's giving up over half a foot in height, 40-60 pounds (depending on which version of Lewis he faces), 17 inches in reach, etc. Usually a smaller fighter can offset his lack of size, with speed, timing, and boxing ability but Lewis has Marciano beat in these areas as well. It honestly pains me to say this, but I don't think Rocky could beat even an off-night Lewis. The disparity is simply to much. I'd give other swarmers like Frazier, Tyson, and even Dempsey better chances than I will Marciano. Lewis TKO6, where Marciano barring a moment or two, is completely outmatched and out of his league. Marciano as we all know will fight valiantly and refuse to give up no matter the odds, but sometimes that just isn't enough.
"5'9 wild swinging slugger Galento dropped Joe Louis so I don't see why the 5'9 much more skilled and technically sound Errol Spence couldn't. It's only a 40 pound difference between him and Louis and Louis got hurt by light heavyweights". ^Marciano fan logic.
Lewis decision...think he does better then Evander but losses a UD. Lewis to good at keeping little guys at a distance. Even ones as relentless as Marciano
Threads like these only make Rocky look like a joke, it’s pretty obvious he has no chance here. Put him against guys his size like Quawi or Beterbiev and then we have a good thread. The only ones who are gonna vote for Rocky are the nostalgic old guys.
Ah but would Spence win the psychological war like Galento did at the in ring ref instructions, Galento claiming Louis had too much grease so took it upon himself to wipe aforementioned off Louis, upsetting Louis bigtime, so this on top of disparaging remarks in fight build up made Louis angry, fighting angry not best plan resulting in Louis initially absorbing too many left hands from Galento.
So, let's start with the obvious. This content is protected However, in the real world, it's rare that you get a best for best scenario. I've put forward an argument before that if you take a shitty version of lewis - and he did blow hot and cold, let's not forget - and put him against a top version of Marciano, that Rocky could beat him. Take the Levi Billups version of Lewis for instance. I might even favour Marciano to beat that version.
I'm starting to wonder why these threads keep appearing. The forum seems pretty settled on it's opinions and nobody seems eager to budge. There are no more surprises to be found in these recurring threads. Seems more like hanging a pinata so everybody can wack away. But if it keeps everyone entertained... I don't mind the show.
I’d take Marciano by KO against the young 220-230 lb Lewis but against the version of Lewis that was with Manny S I take Lewis by wide UD or at a lower percentage, a late stoppage.
