Times are different. The science and meds related to draining weight and then rehydration are better now. Maybe even a bigger factor is weigh-ins being conducted the day before the fight.
he is a tough one to say since at that time I don't remember that being talked about, and he stayed at middleweight. He could come in at 157 at times. The way he looks now he is about 190 or so, but when he was younger with his regiment and discipline I doubt he would get more than 170 between fights.
Bob Arum said he and Duran were very close in height, which in part, is one of the reasons he justified making the match. Interesting caveat is that Hagler fought under the 165 limit as an amateur.
He was was ripped to shreds at 160 and stayed in fighting shape 365 days a year.. He's a 160 pound fighter through and through. The talk of him being a welter are absurd he was far too muscular to get down any lower
I agree 100%. I just watched an old YouTube clip of Mayweather, after his fight with Alverez. Saying he ate as much as he could after the weigh in and was 149 in the ring. Canelo was 165. Marvin was way wider and had way more lean muscle than Floyd. To say he'd be fighting a weight below him as nonsense. He was a perfect middleweight.
Right. A normal human being with his muscle mass probably would rehydrate to 175+ but he was fit like a spartan year round
They take off the weight by dehydrating, not cutting fat or muscle. You're getting weight cuts and getting into shape confused. They are two completely different things.
We all know that but u have to realise that depending on your physical condition at the time, will determine how much water you can drop. The higher percentage of body fat you have, the easier it will be to drop water. Hence your first few weeks of a diet you drop weight. When your diced to the bone, your ability to drop 15lbs of water will leave you depleted and unable to recover quick enough. Also, why would he. As I stated, Mayweather fought at fight night still under the 154lbs limit and won. Same with Pacquiao at 147. These guys are the best in the game, same as Marvin.
Floyd and Pac proved their ability against larger opponents, Hagler didn't. I'm not giving somebody the benefit of the doubt.
